ALINA APTEKER Alina Apteker was born in Poland and started Longwood Lifestyle & Events with her husband, Jim, more than a decade ago. This April they launched their own charity, Longwood Giving, to help fledg- ling nonprofit organizations get on their feet. Their spaces are coveted for top- notch events in Boston, the Cape, Newport, and most recently the Nantucket Beach Club. The business is a true family affair, with her mother-in-law often found directing the catering kitch- ens; Apteker jokes sometimes that she married her husband for his mom. Age: 37. Boston inspires me: Because between Boston and Cambridge we have the most PhDs per capita. Secret of my success: Respecting other people's time. This decade: A woman gets to know the world in her 20s, herself in her 30s, and is ready to make a difference in her 40s. Won't be seen with: Painted nails—too precise a look for me. I like being able to get my hands dirty. I stay in shape by: Role-playing as PE teacher with my six-year-old. When no one sees, I play on monkey bars with her.
