When asking Kai Cardillo, a Junior with two years of experience as well, how he feels about the season ending, he responded with "I feel good but sad at the same time, and I wish it lasted longer because it went by way too fast." He also said "It would have recovery, confidWhen asked, the team's strengths as a whole are defense, teamwork, and heart. It was also explained that the team gets along well together off the field, so working together on the field is no problem, as they're a close group. Some of the members had given out their own personal goals for this season as well as for the team as a whole. These goals ranged from improving practice after practice to simply just making their teammates laugh and remind them their love for the game of softball. A currently injured Brooke Brown, junior, jokingly added "I just hope to play by the end of the season." The 2016 season for our Varsity Softball team is determined this 2016 season to end things with a bang. Catch our spartans at their next game on April 15 at the Wolf Pack Invite. Boys Tennis recaps on a year filled with personal Brianna Zotea Staff Writer Our Varsity Softball team's season has definitely kicked off for the year of 2016. Despite a rocky start, the Red Bluff High School varsity girls are determined to tackle this year's season with a bang. The Varsity Softball team here at Red Bluff High School has no doubt focused on recovery this season. Unfortunately, the varsity team started the season with many injuries, and these injuries have not fully recovered yet. When asked, the team stated that one type of mistakes that the team all together seem to make is mental mistakes. "A majority of us have been playing the game since we were eight. It's in all of our blood, so just be confident," said Rena Fox, junior. According to the varsity softball team, an area of improvement that they need to work on is offense. All in all, The 2016 Red Bluff High School boys tennis team, coached by Stan Twitchell, has finished the season with their fullest potential. With practicing three days a week for two hours, the boys have had an immense amount of time to work on skills that need improving. They have all worked hard throughout the season, and each and every individual has made a huge, positive impact on the team. Even though the season has made its way to an end, that is not stopping Junior Jake Penner, who has two years of experience, to practice on his free time. He wants to work on certain skills to better himself for next year's tennis team because he is looking forward to it. When asking Jake Penner how the season went in his eyes, he replied with "We are so young and inexperienced since we are still a growing team that some matches did not go in our favor, but we all learned valuable lessons and techniques that we will remember and use for a lifetime." The team struggled a little bit on consistency along with their serving, so they attempted to focus on that area. On the other been nice to not end tennis so quickly so we could have gotten the chance to watch everybody improve slowly but surely. With that being said, congratulations to the boys tennis team and all of their accomplishments, and we can't wait to see you guys back out under the Friday night lights next year. This year's Red Bluff High Schools 2016 track team is in the middle of their season with their 12th tournament being on Friday May 13th. For their meat, they will be going up against League Championship. Our track runners here at Red Bluff High cover a variety of events, depending on their preference and capability, ranging from the 100-meter dash to longer distances such as the 2-mile race. Most track and field events are individual sports with a single victor, but a number are relay races. Standard outdoor tracks are 400 meters, and indoor tracks are often 200 meters, requiring you to run twice as many laps to reach the same distance. The running events, which include sprints, middle and long-distance events, and hurdling, are won by the athlete with the fastest time. The jumping and throwing events are won by the athlete who achieves the greatest distance or height.Four laps on a standard track equals one mile. Most events are between 100 and 800 meters, however, there are the distance events at one and two miles, 800 and 1,600 meters, respectively. There are also relays, including the four by 400-meter relay, in which each person runs one lap, and the four by 800-meter relay, in which each person runs two laps. Conner Mackenzie, a sophomore here at Red Bluff High School, was asked what his favorite part of track was. Mackenzie replied with, "My favorite part of track would be getting and staying in shape for my other sports I play." Mackenzie has been in track for 4 years counting his middle school years as well; Mackenzie does the 100 yard dash, long jump, and the 4x100 relay. Regular jumping events include long jump, triple jump, high jump and pole vault, while the most common throwing events are shot put, and discus. Pearce was also asked what their biggest competitor was going to be this season and he replied with, "I think our toughest team that we would face would be West Valley because they are really faster and are decent at their field events." Unless they qualify for sections, the season is over Friday, following the League Championship. Senior Jacob Samuelson remarked that while nothing is for certain, he feels he will be one of a dozen or two Spartans who continue their season on based on their previous events and results. Bluffer/Joe Mills Varsity football looks to build upon offensive power in It's that time of year again where the boys start training, learning positions, and getting to know each other for the upcoming 2016 football season. The head coach of the Varsity football team is Mr. Hein who has seventeen years of coaching experience. When asking Mr. Hein how he feels about the upcoming football year he replied with, "I am excited about it with all of the positive changes that we have made. We returned a lot of players, and I know that they are excited to get back on the field as soon as possible." A few of the changes include switching divisions and rearranging the coaching staff. Hein mentioned that they traditionally have sixty to seventy kids, but they are hoping for approximately fifty kids. Last year, they had a good offensive team, so they are a n t i c i p a t i n g that this year will be no different. From the previous years, the team has been strong at setting new records for their passing yards. But usually the boys lack the ability to do well when it comes to defense, so the coaches main goal is tighten it up with a different plan. When asking Mr. Hein about some challenges they will face, he responded with, "The number one challenge is our preseason, so we have to get through it healthy with the right mindset. They already started training this week, and they will continue to train until May 26." Mr. Hein also wishes for the teammates to build lifelong bonds with a multitude of memories. Wesley Clawson, a junior who is quarterback on the varsity team, said "I expect to win more games because we'll be more successful with all of the changes." Since next year is his last year playing high school football, he brought up that that's not going to stop him from playing. So be on the lookout for next years football season and come out and support your boys. Bluffer/Shania Prieto growth, perserverance and consistency struggles The Golden State Warriors are arguably the greatest team in NBA History, being led by a now healthy unanimous MVP that broke his own record by 27% this year for three point shots made. Following a record- breaking 73-9 regular season, they lost their superstar Steph Curry to a knee injury early in the playoffs, however, he returned in Game four of their current series and gave G.S. a huge advantage, connecting for 41 points and leading them to a 3-1 series lead. Golden State will play against the winner of the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder series. Golden State broke the Spurs home winning streak this season. The San Jose Sharks have completed one of their better franchise seasons to date, hav- ing completed the semi-final round last night against the Nashville Predators. Led by the Joe crew, (Pav- elski and Thornton) they have been playing lights out hockey as of late, beating the LA Kings 4-1 in the conference quarterfinal and finishing the regular season with a record of 46-30-6, while bringing a 7-4 playoff record into last nights game. This season represents San Jose's best chance of bring- ing a Stanley Cup back to the Shark Tank, as the 1991 expansion team has yet to participate in the champion- ship seriees. Winning the World Series makes it easy to forget the Giants got into the postseason as the second wild-card team and went 47-53 in their final 100 games of the regular season. They were a good team in 2014, not a great team, and they got hot at just the right time. We just have to remember San Francisco isn't bringing a powerhouse club back for 2016. Sandoval is gone and the days of having three young aces in Bumgarner, Cain and Lincecum are over. The Giants are a well-rounded club short on power but making up for it with contact ability. Their biggest liability is in the tail end of their rotation, with Cain and Peavy getting teed off on conistently. Varsity Softball grows throughout the season Senior Jacob Samuelson practicing Shotput, Samuelson is currently second in the league for Shotput and competes this Friday at League.
