He was born October 28, 1963, in Huntingburg, Ind. to Yulin Gene and Wilma Mae (Quackenbush) Cato. Carl was a coal miner for Peabody Coal Company and enjoyed horseback riding. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. Con- dolences may be shared with the family online at: www.nassandson.com JAMIE TODD BROWN Jamie Todd Brown, 55, of Petersburg, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville. He was born on Dec. 25, 1960, in Greencas- tle, to the late Freddie and Charlene (Hine) Brown. Jamie grew up at the Hine farm located on Gore Road and graduated from Eminence High School in 1979, where he was often referred to as Todd. At the age of 25, Brown moved to Petersburg with his moth- er, where he resided for the past 30 years. He married Alice (Freeland) Brown on Feb. 17, 1990, started a fam- ily and later adopted and even fostered several chil- dren. He was currently an employee of Peabody Coal, working as an operator for 16 years. Known to be a gentle gi- ant, Jamie was friendly to everyone, yet maintained a small circle of trusted friends. In addition to tell- ing stories, Jamie enjoyed hunting and was a proud hardworking provider to his family. Survivors include his children, Lacy BreAnna (Robert) Jackson, of Scotts- burg, Dakota Ray Brown and Dylan Andrew Brown, both of Petersburg; for- mer spouse, Alice Brown, of Petersburg; sisters, Lor- ri (Ron) Brown, of Arthur, and Regina (Lyle) Gebert, of Washington; cousins, Bruce and Michael Hubbard, both of Clayton; and a niece, Cal- la DeMotte, of Nashville, Tenn. JOANNA K AY (TRUIT T) MASON Joanna Kay (Truitt) Ma- son LPN, 63, of Louisville, Ky. originally from Oakland City, passed away at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Ky. Friday, April 8, 2016. She was born on October 30, 1952, in Oakland City, to John and Joyce Truitt of Oakland City. Joanna enjoyed a rich ca- reer as a nurse, lifelong ad- vocate for the Humane So- ciety, a love for the arts and literature and most of all, a passionate love and devotion to her family, children and grandchildren. Her compassion, creativ- ity, smile and curiosity for the world made a lasting impact on the lives of many. She was preceded in death by her sister and best friend, Deanna Briggs. Surviving are her two sons and their families, Daniel Mason ( John Nor- dgauer), of Louisville, Ky. and Patrick (Lori) Mason, of Houston, Texas. She had three beloved grandchil- dren, Sam, Alli and Nicole; her parents, John and Joyce Truitt, of Oakland City and two brothers, Mike and Kent Truitt, both of Winslow, and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may send messages of comfort to www.lambbasham.com JAMES LEROY SNEED James Leroy Sneed, 64, of Jasper, died at 10 :09 p.m. EDT, Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Memorial Hospital in Jasper, following a brief illness of cancer. He was born in Oak Park, Ill., Sept. 22, 1951, to Rev. James Sneed and Iris (Mc- Namer) Sneed and was a brother to Sharon (Mark) Lemon. Leroy was a dedicat- ed husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, friend and family member. He adored his family, and was a longtime attendee and be- loved song leader at Twin Oaks Church in Petersburg. He spent 28 devoted years employed at Jarco Industries in Jasper, where he was a most dependable and hard- working employee. Leroy graduated from Pe- tersburg High School and shortly thereafter fell in love and married his soulmate, Cheryl Hollingsworth, in 1970. They shared 45 years of marriage. He cherished his daugh- ters, Leah Plemmons, mar- ried to Rev. Dan Plemmons, of Rochester Hills, Mich., and Crystal Smith, married to Jeff Smith, of Washing- ton, Ind. He was a most proud grandfather and shared a special bond with his one and only granddaugh- ter, Amber Fish, and three grandsons, Carson Smith, Clayton Plemmons and Bensen Smith. In November 2013, he be- came a great-grandfather to Camden Fish and again in 2015 to Caitrin Fish. The family received friends at Twin Oaks Church on Sunday, April 10, 2016, from 4-8 p.m., with Harris Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Funeral services were on Monday, April 11, 2016, at Twin Oaks Church, with Rev. Tim Mill- er and Rev. Barry Whitaker officiating. Until that glad reunion day, we will treasure the memories and hold you in our hearts. GER ALDINE (JERI) COLEMAN Geraldine ( Jeri) Cole- man, 83, died Sunday, April 3, 2016. She was born in Pe- tersburg, Dec. 14, 1932, to Frank and Murle Boger, of Petersburg, both deceased. Surviving are her hus- band, Phillip W. Coleman, of Vallejo, Calif.; one son, Mark (Sandy) Coleman, of Vacaville, Calif.; two daugh- ters, Karen Newton, of Va- caville, Calif. and Sandra L. Mannell, of California; two grandsons, Michael New- ton and Christopher Cole- man; three granddaugh- ters, Stella Mannell, Char- lotte Mannell and Amanda Coleman; and two sisters, Rosetta Robling, of Lynn- ville, and Beverly Brigge- man, of Washington, Ind. Five brothers, Leland, Royce, Bill, Roger and Rich- ard Lee Boger; and one sis- ter, Louise, preceded her in death. Three sisters, five nieces and seven nephews preced- ed her in death. Funeral services were in Calif. and burial will be in Velpen. WANNA L. DAY Wanna L. Day, 84, of Mon- roe City, passed away April 6, 2016, at Amber Manor Care Center in Petersburg. She was a member of the Walnut Grove United Meth- odist Church, and a 50 + year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed being with her family, mush- room hunting, being on the sailboat with her husband, and quilting. Wanna was a talented seamstress, having made her children's clothes and formals through their school years, and had also sewn wedding dresses. Wanna was born June 19, 1931, in Pike County, the daughter of Robert and Ol- ive (Frederick) Willis. On Sept. 10, 1949, she married her husband of 60 years, Sheldon Day, and he passed away on May 14, 2010. Her parents; her son, Sam Day; her sisters, Ima Lou Schwoob and Nila Rose Woods; and a grandson, Eric Day, preceded her in death. Surviving are her daugh- ters, Jody Day, of Mon- roe City, and Mindy Wes- sel, of Vincennes; grand- children, Neal Day, Orion Day, Jennifer (Ryan) Park- er and Jamie Rund; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Marlene ( Jim) Nay- lor and Beth Buchta, of Co- lumbus, Ind., Clare (Gary) Popp, of Otwell; and her brothers, Robert "Dick" Willis, of Greenfield, De- Witt (Donna) Willis, of Bed- ford, James Willis, of Otwell, and Alva (Ella) Willis, of Ft. Branch. Visitation was on Sunday, from 3-7 p.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home in Vincennes and Monday, from 9 a.m.-10 a.m. at Walnut Grove Unit- ed Methodist Church. Fu- neral services were Monday, April 11, 2016, at 10 a.m. at the Walnut Grove Methodist Church near Monroe City. Burial was in the church cemetery. Woods, 56, of Oakland City, where she was a lifetime resident, was tak- en to be with the Lord, April 1, 2016. She was born July 24, 1959, in Evansville. She worked at the Princ- eton Daily Clarion for 17 years and Best One Ware- house for 20 years. She grad- uated from Wood Memorial High School in 1977 and at- tended services at Mackey Nazarene Church. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Mickey Woods; three sons, Michael, Dustin ( Jennifer) and Jor- dan Woods; brother, Lowell (Lisa) Tyring; sister, Janice (Richard) Majors; and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Ruth Aileen Tyring. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Corn-Colvin Fu- neral Home in Oakland City. Burial was in Spurgeon Cemetery. DONALD R. HARRIS Donald R. Harris, 71, of Winslow passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016, at Deaconess Gateway Hos - pital in Newburgh. He was born on Feb. 8, 1945, in War- rick County, Ind. to Robert and Nathalee (Lerch) Har- ris. He was a graduate of El- berfeld High School in 1963. He was a coal miner at Pea- body Coal and Black Beau- ty Coal. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge-Lessing #464 and a former member of the Hadi Shrine and the Scottish Rite. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Virginia "Jen- ny" (Harrington) Harris, of Winslow; father, Robert Harris, of Elberfeld; two children, Dean Harris, of Otwell, and Deann Zoghlin, of Chicago, ll.; stepdaugh- ter, Denise Miller, of Evans- ville; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Alice Moody, of Wadesville. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nathalee; and one brother, Bobby Harris. Rainey, 80, of ru- ral Petersburg, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at his home. Ronald had lived in Pike County for the last 40 years, having moved here from Gibson County. He was born on Sept. 11, 1935, in Gibson County, Ind., to Homer Rain- ey and Margaret (Mullins) Rainey. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He worked at Whirlpool Cor- poration on the line for 33 years. He loved hunting, fishing and his animals. He is survived by his son, Tom Rainey; his daughter, Cindy Becker; and a grand- son, Nathan Rainey; five brothers, Donald, Wayne, Orville, Norman and Gor- don; and sisters, Bonnie Basham, Mary Tait, Edna Loveless and Margie Horne. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Corn-Colvin Funer- al Home in Oakland City, with Rev. Keith Jenkins officiating.
