It starts at nine in the morning, and it is a wolf pack invite. Golf is a sport where you have a club and ball and players hit the balls into a series of holes on a course in a few strokes as possible; this is a sport that requires patience to be a key component. Even though there is not much experience on the team overall, the boys are going to play pretty decent because they have had a lot of practice time to improve on their skills. The only concern that is stopping the boys and their coach, Ron Kuwata, is the weather according to Freshman Dawson Hopper. The only thing the team can do is to just hope for the best that the weather will not inf luence the way they play. If the weather is not in their favor, then it could take a toll on their s c o r e s . W h e n a s k i n g D a w s o n H o p p e r , who has b e e n p l a y i n g golf for t h r e e y e a r s , how the team is doing so far, he replied with "We have great teamwork because we all get along well, and it is nice to know that the older kids will help us out if we have any troubles with anything." He also added that he is looking forward to winning matches and getting to know the guys a little better. The Red Bluff High School golf team practices three days a week for two hours at Wilcox. W h e n asking Senior C a m e r o n Perdue, who has been playing golf for approximately two weeks, why he decided to play this sport, he responded with "I was bored after basketball, so I did this because it is good to try new things, and it also looks good on scholarships." Cameron also mentioned that getting angry in golf is pretty common and since it is such a simple concept, it makes you frustrated whenever you mess up. "Leaving school early for tournaments is a plus though," said Cameron. The bigger schools like Shasta or Pleasant Valley should be Red Bluff's toughest opponents because not only do they have a bigger team, but they have more experienced players. When asking Senior Ben Crane, who has been playing golf for four years, what the team has to do in order to get that win they desire, he replied with "We need to concentrate and relax and get our heads together if we want all our scores to add up really well together." Since it is Ben's last year, he is bummed, but he can not wait to see what everyone has in store throughout the season. "... I did this because it is good to try new things...." -Cameron Perdue The Red Bluff High School Junior Varsity Girls Softball team started their season off with a win on March 1 against Oroville. After putting up a nine run third inning, the girls coasted the rest of the game and easily defeated them 16 runs to 5. The weather then wreaked havoc on their schedule, cancelling the following weekend's tournament due to rain, which was set to be held at P.V. After that cancellation, the team was hopeful to get a few more games in at the following tournament at Enterprise, but again mother nature stepped in and the tournament was cancelled due to inclement weather. Even though this year's team is relatively young, with only three sophomores playing J.V. as several were moved up to Varsity, including Braydi Johnson and Aubree Akins. This year's team is incredibly balanced both in experience and on the stat sheet, and their depth is ref lected in how they play, as eight players scored and the team recorded three extra base hits. The girls are proceeding with this season in hopes that the weather begins to cooperate better and that they can continue to improve as a group and play stronger against stronger teams. They start off their home schedule on March 22 against Foothill, with the first pitch coming at 4:00. The Varsity girl's team also starts their home season off Against Foothill on the 22nd, which also starts at 4. The JV Softball team is hoping for clear sunny skies and the weather for the next few days is a good outlook for the rest of the softball season. They are not anticipating much more rain and hope to have a great season with equally as great weather and hope to dominate this season.
