August 2015 www.daltonchamber.org Chamber Link 3 Feature Story Latino Leaders Paniagua Auto Mall ABC Insurance How did you get started in your current business? I started this business with a lot of effort and primarily by saving money with fif- teen years of hard work, dedication, and good credit. I also started out with a lot of dreams, wishes, and a positive attitude of becoming successful. A dream can seem unattainable but with the right mindset, anything is possible. Why did you choose Dalton? After living several years in Dalton, I thought it was a great place to start my business. It's a great city, with great people, and great potential. It's been a rewarding city to me, and I am pleased to have one of my businesses here. What has been helpful to you in your journey to success? What has been helpful in my journey is my ability to stay focused on my goals. Aside from staying focused, I work hard each and every day. I plan what I want to do, and study projects I have in mind. I stay consistent. I also spend money wisely, and my passion for my business has also been helpful and never lose faith. What might you tell other Latino Business owners about connecting in the community? I would tell other Latino business owners to get involved more with organizations like the Chamber of Commerce, that way they may get new tips for new sales. One of the best tips that I would suggest to any Latino businesses is to take care their credit. There is a better possibility that their business will grow, if their credit is good. Finally, to be open to constant changes, such as the internet since it offers a wide range of business growth. Franscisco Paniagua How did you get started in your current business? I came to Georgia for a vacation with my family in 2004. We liked the people, the houses and the countryside. The mountains reminded me of my home back in Puerto Rico. The pricing for houses were really good compared to the ones in New Jersey, so we sold our house in Jersey, and bought our new home here. I was here a short time before I bought the agency from a Spanish lady that was moving out of state. Our agency has been steadily growing ever since. Why did you choose Dalton? Before we moved here, I did research of Dalton, the economy, the growth, the schools, the churches and development of people and businesses. I saw the potential to grow a good business and raise my family in a good environment. I am happy to be a part of the Dalton Community. What has been helpful to you in your journey to success? My trust and belief in God has been most helpful in my journey to success along with the help of my family and a good staff at ABC Insurance Services. We gen- uinely care about our customers as if they are family, and we make them our number one priority. We believe and put in motion that good customer service is a must and is key to making our agency the best in town. What might you tell other Latino Business owners about connecting in the community? Connecting with the community is a good way to get idea and suggestions on how the town, people and business operate and grow. It is always good to be a part of the community and having a hand in its growth and development. One thing I would like to see if my involvement of Spanish business owners, or just Spanish people in general. We need strong Spanish people to stand up and be counted. We have poor representation of the Hispanics because they do not partici- pate in community affairs out of fear. I would like to see more public representation, more education and more Hispanic people joining the Chamber to see the benefits of being a member really are. Julio Velazquez
