Player of the Issue/Shania Prieto Sports Varsity football reflects on season Open Gym commences for 2015 basketball season Mary Herrera Staff Writer Joseph Mills Staff Writer The Red Bluff High School Varsity Football team had a season that many will be looking to put behind them next year, finishing with a record of 1-9, with the sole win coming against Central Valley in Week One. When talking to several of the players, they all expressed that there were bright spots up and down throughout the season and with one or two plays going differently their record would be closer to .500. Individually, several players had big years, including Seniors Sean Stanley and Lane Pritchard, who were ranked top 5 in the league in tackles and receiving yards respectively. This year's team broke several school records, especially in the passing game, where the Quarterback and Receiving Corps set records for yards, completions, td's, and pass attempts. When asked about how it felt to be on the team that broke the record, receiver Conner Mckenzie said, "it's an honor we had to get Wes that record he is an amazing quarterback wanted to put his name in the record books." Coach Corey Hein said that, "Breaking the record was a great honor for our kids. It truly takes Football season has come to an end and winter sports have commenced. An all-time favorite is basketball where many students come together to cheer on the Red Bluff High basketball players. Open gym began for boys basketball last week following into tryouts and this year there was a large turnout at tryouts for the three different teams. Referring to themselves as "The Big 4" which consists of seniors Lane Pritchard, Sage McNeil, Alex Stanley and Ryan Henderson, they were asked the all-time popular question, "Do you even ball?" Pritchard responded with "Does a bear poop in the woods?" McNeil responded with "Every day except for Sunday cuz I have to stay holy." "Is that even a question?" responded Stanley while Ryan Henderson stated, "Well considering Lebron is my dad…" With tryouts right after Open Gym, "The Big 4" were asked how they are preparing for the season. Pritchard said, "By ballin' on the football field." McNeil said, "No comment. Can't let these people know my grind secrets." Stanley responded with "Playing 2k16" and Henderson said, "I'm just out grindin' daily at open gym." While preparing for the upcoming season they were asked what they expect for this year. Pritchard responded with "One word… I'm the facilitator." Sage McNeil stated, "Big team, big rings". Alex Stanley said that he is headed towards that "full ride scholarship" While Henderson replied with "Dubs". When asked how they hustle in open gym Sage McNeil, Lane Pritchard and Alex Stanley all responded with "We play basketball." While Henderson responded with, "Ball up some little freshmen." The Varsity basketball team has been announced under the instructor of the new coach, Coach Pablo. The freshman, JV and Varsity teams will continue to announce their teams and will begin to practice as they prepare for their first games, upcoming tournaments and the famous Holiday Classic. "The Big 4" closed the Open Gym talk with their final comments. Lane responded with, "Jumpan Jumpman Jumpan." Alex Stanley responded with"*drops mic*" and Ryan Henderson closed with "Shout out to my dad, love you pops." S andoval Santoyo Carrion, sophomore at RBHS, plays three different sports. He plays Soccer, Football and Track and field. He likes soccer because it feels different than other sports. He started playing football as of last year and said, "It's fun to play." He also started Tack and field as of last year because he saw it as a great opportunity to hang out with friends and likes the competitive nature. He likes not only competing with other schools but with his teammates and Track and Field is the perfect sport for a little friendly competition. Tennis wrap up league play with Abby O'Sullivan Staff Writer her Red Bluff High School career with a bang. Poole received honorable mention and was the placed tenth overall in league. When asked, Poole what Abby O'Sullivan Staff Writer Golf ends season with third overall "I practiced a lot and worked on my short game." -Autumn Poole The 2015 Red Bluff High School Varsity girls' golf team did exceptionally well this season. The Varsity girls overall placed third in league and also place third place in sections. This season the Red Bluff High school Varsity girls did not make it to Norcals; they required a 500 and below but the girls shot a 537. Autumn Poole is closing kind of strategies she used to place tenth overall she replied, "I practiced a lot and worked on my short game; I also went to the course before hand and got to know the ropes of the course before I had to play on it." Poole hopes to continue playing golf in college and hopes the Red Bluff High girls Varsity tennis team next year will make it to Norcals. Red Bluff High School girls Golf team had a terrific season and has high hopes for next year. This 2015 Red Bluff High School Varsity girl's tennis season was one for the books. The girls wrapped up league play with a three way tie. Red Bluff took home the first place title along with Pleasant Valley, and Chico. When asked, Rylee DuFrain a junior at Red Bluff High School, how she felt about getting first in league, responded with, "Great, it took a lot of hard work, and excellent coaching to finish where we did." Next, Megan Boone, also a junior at Red Bluff High, was asked the same question. She said, "This was an awesome season for us, we all learned a lot and worked really hard." Going into the league tournament Red Bluff was seeded number three, and faced Pleasant Valley. Unfortunately this was the end of the road for the team as a whole. However, individuals went further. Rylee DuFrain, Cleo DuFrain, Caity Igarta, Megan Boone, Maggie Winning and Ellie Christianson went on to league playoffs. The Dufrain sisters, Igarta, and Winning went on to sections, and all received honorable mentions in singles and All- League in doubles. Overall the Red Bluff High School girls tennis team had an excellent season. All of their hard work paid off and the girls are looking forward to the 2016 Varsity girls' tennis season. Lineman, receivers, backs and the QB working together is the biggest factor. I am happy for these guys and feel very lucky to have been a part of so many passing records this season. Wesley Clawson is really a great athlete and we have a lot to look forward to next fall." With the team losing twenty seniors this year, there will be a massive hole for the team to fill next year, however, the players feel confident that with the group of JV players coming up and the returning juniors, the group will be ready to do battle again next year, led by quarterback Wesley Clawson and a high flying passing attack. When asked about this gap, Hein said, "Our kids and staff are very encouraged about our team next year. We feel like we have a great group of seniors coming back and we have a ton of JV kids that will contribute next fall. Our staff is already working on our plans for next season. We hope that with a move back to the NAL that we can complete next year for a NAL Championship in 2016. Fixing a few issues and our kid's devotion in the weight room this off season will be the biggest factors in our success next fall."
