The play takes place in the 1930's, where Tom Wingfield goes through his memories. He is an aspiring poet who supports his mother and sister in a shoe warehouse. Mr. Homme is the director of this fall play along with the Drama Department as well. When asked what his expectations of the play were, he replied with, "I expect that my actors will have the chance to experience this literary masterwork fully, and to gain insight into other ways of seeing the world through their c h a r a c t e r ' s e y e s . " He also explained certain challenges his students have had to face for the preparation of this play such as having to memorize a book that would usually take a class weeks to read while bringing the characters' words to life. "Additionally, it was a challenge sometimes to distinguish the character from ourselves, while yet using our personal experience to build our characters," said RBHS teacher, Mr. Homme. According to Mr. Homme, the most rewarding part of this play was having the opportunity to watch his actors succeed in bringing the play to life. When asked about what he has learned from this experience, he replied with, "In particular, I have seen by this play more clearly how the big picture--world history-- is expressed in the small things of everyday life." Red Bluff High School's fall play, The Glass Menagerie, will take one last curtain call tonight at 7:00pm in the PAC, so let us all support our Drama Department tonight, here at Red Bluff High School.
