We Beat All Big Box Stores and all Competitors | Visit Our Showroom By Appointment "It's a temporary fix that can really fresh- en up a room and hold you over until you can install new cabinets," she said. Gray tones continue to be a popular inte- rior color scheme — light gray, dark gray or "greige" (a combination of gray and beige) — that also works well on cabinets. If your style is more adventurous, cabinetry is a great place to play with out-of-the-box tones that may otherwise be too bright for walls. Sunny yellows and cool blues are a couple of popular options. Quick changes Sometimes the smallest (and quickest) changes can have the most surprising effect on a room's overall feel and look. Swapping out cabinet hardware can update a room in minutes and a new light fixture can change the entire ambience of a space. "If I suggested one new purchase for the holidays, it would be to replace the chande- lier in the dining room," Weber said. "After all, the center of activities during the enter- taining months is about food and family, and what better way to make a change than in the center of the dining room or your kitchen table." Have some fun with your fixtures, too. "Homeowners don't have to match all their light fixtures in finish color, either," Weber added. "Designers of light fixtures have really embraced new metal finishes from copper to brass." Yes, brass. The 1980s favorite is back, but with an Old-World brushed finish that is darker than its bright and shiny predecessor. But perhaps the eas- iest way to get your home dressed in its hol- iday best is by adding holiday flair to the home decor and accessories you already own. Vases, pillows, throws and other acces- sories are easy ways to introduce the season without breaking the budget. "Take a universal piece you already have, like a glass bowl or a lantern that you put the candle in, and change the decor around it according to the season," Sodemann said. For example, fill a glass bowl with acorns, gourds, mini pumpkins and leaves around Thanksgiving, and then replace those items with ornaments and tinsel or cinnamon sticks and pine cones later in the season. Consider using more seasonal decorations instead of holiday-themed decorations. "Every decoration doesn't have to be Christmassy," Sodemann said. "People are doing more silver and blues or silver and reds so it's more of a winter theme. It still allows for a couple Christmas-themed deco- rations here and there, but it transitions with the seasons without having to put up or take down a lot. Throws and pillows that incorporate pops of holiday color or themes not only add sea- sonal flair, but their varied textures and material add coziness and warmth. And remember, less can be more, Sode- mann said. You don't want the space to look or feel overwhelming so choose one piece or feature as the focal point and have the items around it be more simplistic.
