By Chris Bennett Special to The Freeman BROOKFIELD — Popcorn, tea and olive oil, along with smarts, savvy and hard work, can form the basis of a business. Three women in Brook- field prove as much every day they throw their doors open to the commu- nity. You likely love popcorn — just about everyone does — and for Wendy Anderson at Treat Street at 18720 Pleasant St. in Brookfield, that love affair is the basis of a thriving busi- ness model. Karen Slager's latest project in a life that includes home-schooling children, adopting internationally and losing more than 140 pounds is Fava Tea Co. at 17115-G W. Blue- mound Road in Brookfield. At The Oilerie, 17125 W. Bluemound Road in Brookfield, Jackie Zach opened a franchise in what is now the nation's largest hand bottler of extra virgin olive oil at the height of the Great Recession and realized a long- time dream. Together, Anderson, Slager and Zach are three women, three busi- nesses and three stories of success in one lucky community. Treat Street Anderson said she's been told Treat Street's caramel corn rivals that of Chicago's Garrett Popcorn Shops, which is known far and wide for con- fectionary mastery.
