McKenzie echoed these sentiments, saying, "We just have to come out strong and the defense needs to communicate and the offense has to execute so we can win this game. Getting this win would be a good confidence boost and make us even hungrier to keep winning." The fact that tonight is Homecoming sweetens the deal, with Stanley saying that tonight is a big game, and the team is looking to win one both for the school and its supporters. Head coach Corey Hein echoed this statement, saying, "(Homecoming) is a giant game with a huge crowd and the kids are excited to play for every player and student who has come before them through the school." While winning tonights Homecoming game would be big, it's also important for the team to earn a league win for if they make a serious playoff push later the in year. After talking to the players, this team remains positive for the future, as they are continuing to become more and more cohesive every week, making fewer big mistakes and capitalizing on more opportunities when they're presented to them. The players stated that their coach is kind and focuses well on what each player personally needs to work on to perform at a higher level and keep continuosly improving. Julia Zumalt, sophomore, said, "She is really nice. She focuses well on what we need personally." So far, the players believe that they have been working well together, even though their record may not show how well they have performed. The team plays as a cohesive unit, who know each other well already. Since they already knew each other well before the season, the team hasn't had any team bonding activities, but are looking to plan and have a few team lunches throughout the rest of season. Julia Zumalt said, "The season has gone well. We perform as a cohesive unit." The team continues to work hard through their practices in order to improve separately as indiviuals and also collectively as a team. Julia Zumalt said that in order to improve as a team, they will continue to work on individual goals and team goals. Tyler Ellenberger, sophomore, said "It's going well. We're getting better as a team." Last week, they played Chico High School. Even though they lost, the players said that they played really well and that the games were close. The players said that they had good communication against Chico. Tyler Ellenberger also stated, "I think we'll keep improving." However, they also added that they needed to improve on their coverages of the court so that people on the team have a better understanding of where they are going and what they need to be doing. They also said that their blockers needed to do a better job at closing the blocks, so that they are more likely to get a block instead of the ball going through the block. The so far undefeated freshman girls Volleyball team coached by Ali Mcdonald is turning out to be very successful in strategizing their game plan so far this 2015 girls Freshman Volleyball season. When asked about some of their personal goals for the rest of the season, Audrey Benner freshman replied, "Some of my goals are to get all of my serves over the net and in the out of bounds line." Benner added, "Also to go undefeated for the rest of the season with my teammates." Benner went on mentioning how close the team is and how they all have each other's backs when they're on the court. Benner believes that since the team does a lot of conditioning in their practices they are ready for anything that comes their way on the court. The Freshman Volleyball team also spends a lot time in the weight room during their practices that it is making them work harder and have better endurance when it comes to game time. " The girls are very o p t i m i s t i c for staying undefeated throughout the entire season. Ali Mcdonald, coach for the Red Bluff High School Freshman girls Volleyball team, believes the teams' strengths are that they have a power line up. When Bluffer asked Mcdonald how she thought the team was going to do this season she replied, "Since we got first in Gold Banquet at Foothill last Saturday on the 26th." Mcdonald also said, "We see a lot of the same teams in the tournament that are in league play, and that lets the other teams see what they have coming." A new tradition was brought to the Red Bluff Highschool girl's freshman volleyball team this year. William Nelson a sophomore approached Ali Mcdonald the coach and asked if there was anything that he could help with. According to Mcdonald, "We had a team manager when we were kids so I thought it would be very helpful for the team and for me." When asking the team manager Nelson how he helps the girls be successful he replied "I help keep stats and I always want to help with anything I can." Cross country has started again as of September 4, with their first race against Springhorn classic at the Shasta College campus. They began the season with a rocky start. Both levels are hoping to better their luck and beat Clam Beach in their race tomorrow. The race will be held in Arcata and it will start at 10:45 in the morning. The runners have been practicing hard, they're excited and plan on beating Clam Beach by a landslide. Tessa Burch, senior and varsity runner, said, "[Clam Beach] feels great, you run on the sand with your shoes off, it's not to hot or too cold, and you can swim afterwards." Burch has been in Cross Country for 4 years now and she loves it. Naomi Renfroe, junior and varsity runner, said. "I like the Clam Beach run because, i've been running forever and it helps me think, it's fun." The runners are looking forward to do the cross country run because they run on the beach and if they want to, and brought extra clothes, towel, etc., they get to swim after their long runs and just relax and hangout for a bit. "I think the team will do really well... we have solid players and good attitudes." -Hayden Ellenberger keeps strong outlook for the season The JV Football team have begun their season with some hard losses but also recent wins that have helped keep their hopes up and ready to battle Shasta High School tonight during the Homecoming Game. During the Tehama County Shootout, the JV boys suffered a hard loss against Corning with a final score of Corning 47 and Red Bluff 34. Although, after playing Foothill High School last Friday night during Foothill's Homecoming Game, the JV team won the game and beat out Foothill with a final score of Red Bluff 28 and Corning 6. With this recent win, JV football player Marshal Brose tells that Red Bluff is ready to go and prepared to get another win against Shasta tonight. When asked how the team has been preparing for the big Homecoming game, Brose responded with, "We have been working out a lot and making sure that we know all of our plays perfectly. We also make sure to work hard during practices so we'll be able to do a good job during the game." In order to improve their skills, the team has been going into a classroom during lunch in order to watch their game film and see what they need to improve on for the upcoming game. JV Football Coach Sanders was asked what he expects out of the game tonight to which he responded "I hope my players will come out mentally focused and are willing to give their absolute best effort on the field." Their most difficult aspect for the game is that "Shasta has a very good JV team so we'll have to be displayed strongly on defense and offensively we have to make sure to eliminate penalties and move the ball." commented Sanders. We encourage everyone to attend the Homecoming game tonight where the JV game will begin at approximately 5:30 pm. Go Spartans! Maddie Coker/Yearbook
