That's not quite the traditional cry at a race's starting line, but for the sixth season of Food Network's "The Great Food Truck Race," it has a certain appealing ring to it. The Tyler Florence-hosted competition premieres Sunday, Aug. 23, on Food Network, and for this sixth race from city to city, it's going back to its roots. The show's premise is pret- ty simple. A number of food trucks — for this season, there will be seven — set out across the country with their crews of two, stopping at cit- ies along the way, where they'll have to set up and sell their tasty meals. At each stop, the food truck that pulls in the least amount of money is eliminat- ed, and the winning opera- tors after the last stop are handed a nice $50,000 in cold, hard cash. The past few seasons have been all about amateur oper- ators. The folks behind the wheel and on the grill were driving trucks provided by Food Network, and if they won the race, they got to keep it. This season, though, is hearkening back to the first two seasons. These folks are no strangers to the cutthroat food truck industry. They're seasoned operators who'll be driving their own busi- nesses — literally — from town to town. In the Aug. 23 premiere, the seven teams of food truck operators will rendez- vous for their first sales com- petition on the Santa Monica pier in California before set- ting out along Route 66 to Lake Havasu City, Arizona. There, the locals are in for a fishy treat as the food truck owners each come up with their own take on fish 'n' chips in a high-stakes culinary fight to avoid elimination. With this being "The Great Food Truck Race's" sixth sea- son, it's fitting that the food trucks will be following the historic Route 66. With stops in New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Illinois, it really is a cross- country race to the finish line.
