Yes, "The Daily Show" will no longer be "with Jon Stew- art," as the beloved anchor is calling it quits after a very suc- cessful run on the satirical news show. His last episode behind the desk of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" bows Thursday, Aug. 6, on Comedy Central. Stewart announced his retire- ment back in February, getting emotional and telling audiences at the taping for "The Daily Show" that "in my heart, I know it is time for someone else to have that opportunity [to host]." The tributes and accolades soon rolled in for him following that announcement, but as time went on, one question cropped up: "Why now?" With an election looming, why hand over the reins of this insanely popular show that you helped craft into a criti- cally acclaimed piece of televi- sion? "It's not like I thought the show wasn't working any more, or that I didn't know how to do it. It was more, 'Yup, it's working. But I'm not getting the same satisfac- tion,'" he told "The Guardian" in April. "These things are cyclical. You have moments of dissatisfac- tion, and then you come out of it and it's OK. But the cycles become longer and maybe more en- trenched, and that's when you re- alize, 'OK, I'm on the back side of it now.'" And so, with a few simple words, that's that. Stewart's time is officially done and "The Daily Show" will be ushered into a new era. South African comedian Trevor Noah takes over hosting duties later next month, and fans can de- cide whether they feel he's a wor- thy replacement for the revered Stewart. (If recent reviews from some of his stand-up shows are any indication, though, he should slide in just fine and bring big laughs.) Of course, it won't be easy re- placing Stewart, whose gift for fun- ny not only translated well on- screen but also in his show's hires as well. During his 16-year tenure, he and "The Daily Show" helped kickstart the careers for an almost unbelievable number of now-fa- mous comedians. Arguably the biggest name of those comedians is Stewart's long- time correspondent and friend Ste- phen Colbert. Colbert, who just re- cently wrapped "The Daily Feature this week
