Council members vow to closely review legislation Post Staff MILWAUKEE — The downtown arena passed in the Assembly, but it face further scrutiny as it goes to the Milwaukee Common Council. Gov. Scott Walker said he would sign the legisla- tion that passed by a 52-34 vote on Tuesday. Voting against it were 20 Republicans and 14 Democrats. It already passed in the Senate. Many of the legislators said the new arena that would keep the Milwaukee Bucks in the state was an economic necessity. Of the 21 Assembly dis- tricts encompassing parts of Milwaukee County, all but four representatives voted for the Bucks arena deal, with the exceptions being Dan Riemer, who is out of the country, and Jonathan Brostoff, Dave Craig and David Bowen. Some council members sounded like they would closely review the legisla- tive bill. "To help us take a deep dive into the numbers and details, I've asked said the City of Milwaukee Comptroller to complete an analysis related to the city's financing package prior to public hearings that will be held before the Finance and Personnel Committee and the Zoning, Neigh-borhoods and Development Committee," Common Council President Michael J. Murphy said. "This is a complicated deal that has been drafted and redrafted many times," said Alderman Nik Kovac, chair of the Council's Finance and Personnel Committee. "Our commit- tee process will give my col- leagues — and the resi- dents of this city — a chance to learn the details and ask tough questions." Mayor Tom Barrett and County Executive Chris Abele have praised the plan. 2 • Milwaukee County Post • July 31, 2015 Marcus reports record revenue Volume 21, issue number 31 The Milwaukee Post (ISSN 1544-1776) is published weekly by Conley Media, Milwaukee County 3397 South Howell Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53207 For all departments call: 414-744-6370 News display and advertising FAX: 414-375-7070 Classifieds: 800-762-6219 ext. 5005 Classified Fax: 262-334-6252 For display advertising inquires: 414-744-6370 Barry Richards: Advertising Representative — ext. 13 brichards@conleynet.com Julia LeGath: Advertising Representative — ext. 17 jlegath@conleynet.com Jim Baumgart Advertising Sales Director — 262-513-2621 jbaumgart@conleyent.com For editorial questions: Dan Muckelbauer Editor 262-513-2626 dmuck@conleynet.com POSTMASTER: Send address changes to the Milwaukee Post 3397 S. Conley News Service MILWAUKEE — Fiscal 2015 ended on a high note for the Marcus Corporation, which reported that it had record revenues for the fourth quarter as well as for the whole year, including for its theater and hotels and resorts divisions. Total revenues for the fourth quarter were a record $120,084,000, a 10.7 percent increase from revenues of $108,474,000 for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2014, according to the Milwaukee-based company. Operating income was $8,580,000 for the fourth quarter, a 10.3 percent decrease from operating income of $9,564,000 for the same period in 2014. According to Marcus, the fourth-quarter operating income would have increased if not for a one-time pre-tax impairment charge of $2,603,000 related to the company's hotels and resorts division in 2015. "Marcus Theatres reported record oper- ating income for fiscal 2015 and significant- ly outperformed the industry for the sixth consecutive quarter. However, operating income for Marcus Hotels & Resorts was reduced by the temporary impact of con- struction for the conversion of our down- town Chicago hotel into an AC Hotel by Marriott that opened in early June and the one-time impairment charge," said Gregory S. Marcus, president and CEO of The Marcus Corporation, in a statement. Net earnings attributable to The Marcus Corporation were $3,249,000 for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2015, a 23.6 percent decrease from net earnings attributable to The Marcus Corporation of $4,254,000 for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2014.
