July 29, 2015 Ozaukee Guide Extra Value All Aboard! Ride the rails with the Ozaukee County Historical Society Experience the early history of Ozaukee County railroads as told by Cedarburg resident Reid Van Sluys, in an informal presentation with emphasis on the Milwaukee and Northern Railroad and the Milwaukee, Lake Shore and Western Railway at Ozaukee County Historical Society's annual meeting. Van Sluys, a lifelong railroad fan, traces his interest in Ozaukee County's railroads back to his childhood, growing up in Cedarburg in the 1960s and observing first- hand the Milwaukee Road operations. His special interest is the Milwaukee Road's old Superior Division, and in particular, the Chicago to Houghton, Mich. "Copper County Limited" passenger train, which ended its run in March 1968. In addition to belonging to several railroad historical societies and being a former museum professional, Van Sluys served seven years as editor of "The SOO," the quarterly magazine of the Soo Line Historical and Technical Society. The OCHS's quarterly meeting will be held Monday, Aug. 3, at the Cedarburg Cultural Center, W62 N546 Washington Ave. The business meeting begins at 7 p.m., with the presentation starting at 7:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served and free and on-site parking is available. See Page 10-14 For Details Workforce Development Center 242138024 Excludes Luxury Brand Products. The building was moved to Pioneer Village in Saukville by the Ozaukee County Historical Society. The building was refurbished, a section of track was laid in front of the depot and a Milwaukee Road caboose was acquired to add authenticity to the site. A new family-owned and operated optical shop recently opened its doors downtown Port Washington. EYE-Q Optical is owned by James & Connie Doyle of Port Washington and offers Medical and Routine Comprehensive Eye Exams. They also offer a host of many other eyeglass and contact lens services coupling 'state-of-the-art eye care advancements with old-fashion, friendly customer service.' "We've always been really big fans of family-owned and operated businesses in the area," James said. "I don't think it's much of a secret that you just cannot find the same craftsmanship, passion, and customer service at the corporate 'big box' stores as you can at the 'Mom & Pop Shops' no matter where you go, but Ozaukee County seems to celebrate and appreciate this fact more than most places. We genuinely love helping people 'look better and see better' so we strive to meet the needs and demands of everyone in the community by having something for everyone. We want to be able to help everyone with their eye care needs, no matter the budget." The 42 years of experience as Board Licensed Optometrist and Certified Opticians seems to be paying off for the practice and community, alike, as EYE-Q has already begun receiving great online reviews. Their Facebook page is reflecting nothing but positive, 5-Star testimonies from the community already. 'Great selection, courteous and knowl- edgeable staff' and 'I love my glasses!" are just some of the reviews. Appointments can be made by calling (262)261-5252. More information can be found at myeyeq.com or by visiting the EYE-Q Optical (Port Washington) Facebook page. 245240128
