Stacy Stagg Vice President, Assistant General Manager Red Rock Resort S pediped® tacy Stagg launched her career with gam- ing group Station Casinos in 1995 as a food server at the newly opened Texas Station, where she demonstrated leadership and drive and captured the attention of her supervisors. She recruited onto the management team, where she has ascended the ranks of Station Casinos' crown jewel. Having previously served as assistant food and beverage director at Sunset Station, director of food and beverage at Santa Fe Sta- tion and assistant general manager at Santa Fe Station, Stagg's 17 years of experience with Station Casinos has engendered an apprecia- tion of the company's family-oriented corpo- rate culture, which trains and promotes from within, encourages mentorship and rewards hard work. Stagg, who oversees some 2,500 team members at Red Rock Resort and is one of only two female general managers in the com- pany's portfolio of properties, said Stations is no longer in the restructuring process, so one objective for 2012 is to stay focused on the business side of Red Rock, and move forward in an effort to achieve pre-recessionary levels. "We've gone through some downtimes, Thomas Mary Senior Vice President of Human Resources Caesars Entertainment Corp. "W e have an exciting agenda ahead of us for this year," declares Mary Thomas. At its core will be enabling the com- pany's 70,000 employees "to be at their best in their private lives, their home lives, as well as at work." It's hardly a new initiative, but something Caesars works at perennially. "We actually do an employee survey every year," Thomas said. "The great news is that we have improved our participation in each of the last fi ve years: we're at 85 percent of our workforce." Health care, no surprise, is a hot-button issue. Staffers also care about the state of the business itself. "They want to know about the developments that we're making, so we've done a lot of communication in that regard. We absolutely want to engage the employees because that is just the right thing to do." One of Thomas' primary goals has been improving employees' health. The com- ing year will be no different, as benefi ts are expanded to include on-site nurse practitio- ners at every Las Vegas property. Last year, with WellNurses positioned in just a few loca- tions, more than 30,000 employees and their dependents were able to seek medical help, ask questions and learn about living healthier lives. Caesars will also open health clinics in communities across the nation. Worth noting is the fact that even with the added benefi ts, 2012 will be the third year that employees' health care premiums didn't increase. The unique quality that Thomas feels she brings to the table is her considerable energy, what she calls "my personal passion to con- nect our employees in a greater manner with what matters to them, and to our customers. It's energy and passion, which is why our track record for the past fi ve years has been so good. That's not me saying that, it's what our employees are telling us." Us, in fact, is the lens through which Thomas views her mission in 2012 and beyond, which helps explain her success. "If you were to ask what the one thing is that is different about us at Caesars—and I'm happy to be part of the team that drives that—it's that relentlessness and energy, and always wanting to do better each year.' " —Howard Riell SPAM KETCHUP PACKET HONEY BOOK OF LISTS VERY FEW THINGS HAVE A LONGER SHELF LIFE but we always challenge ourselves to be bet- ter, and it's time to push to the next level," said Stagg, who helped to create "Leading Through Knowledge," a year-long manage- ment training program for 10 managers or supervisors who aspire to grow in manage- ment. "We do internal training for mentoring people who are inspired by the story that you can work your way up, and we have an entire program associated with that process." Stagg, who has held her current post for fi ve years, said she tends to focus on the here- and-now, and to awaken each day with fresh ideas to improve each shift. "What's been successful for me in my 17 years with Station Casinos is being the best that I can be and taking advantage of the posi- tion I'm in at any level," Stagg said, who is also a community advocate for Red Rock Resort and encouarges her team to get involved in volunteerism and philanthropy. "Wherever my talents are needed, that's where I'll be. I've never been title-drive—I'm more concerned about what I can contribute—but I suppose my goal is to one day get my own property."
