Wauwatosa detective released from hospital; Najee Harmon charged in shooting MILWAUKEE — Wauwatosa Police Det. Jeffrey Griffin was released Tuesday from Froedtert Hospital. Griffin had been hospitalized since June 19, when he was shot in the line of duty while investigating a burglary. Najee Harmon, 20, has been charged in the shooting. Harmon faces a maximum sen- tence of more than 200 years on four felony counts, including three counts of attempted intentional homicide, the media reported. 4 • Milwaukee County Post • July 3, 2015 WEEK IN REVIEW STATE AND LOCAL STORIES OF INTEREST Man, 29, arrested in crash with off-duty Milwaukee police officer MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee police officer who just left work Tuesday was struck by an alleged drunken driver on southbound Interstate 43 at West National Avenue in Milwaukee, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded to the crash at 1:16 a.m. The 49-year-old off-duty offi- cer, alone in his vehicle, was taken to an area hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries, the Sheriff's Office said. Juan J. Pintor, 29, of Milwaukee drove the car that hit the officer's vehi- cle, the Sheriff's Office said. Pintor, who complained of pain to the head, neck and face, was also taken to an area hospital, the Sheriff's Office report- ed. A 23-year-old male passenger in Pintor's vehicle was not injured, deputies said. A deputy said he noticed signs of intoxication, and Pintor was arrested for injury by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle — causing great bodily harm, causing injury while intoxicated and two operating while intoxicat- ed counts. Complaint: Milwaukee man, juveniles caught driving car stolen from Cudahy WAUKESHA — A Milwaukee man allegedly drove a car stolen from Cudahy to Brookfield last December. Brandon Moore, who turned 18 on Friday, was charged June 24 in Waukesha County Circuit Court with operating an auto without consent. He faces up to six years in prison if convicted. A criminal complaint said a Brookfield police officer noticed the Chevy Astro van speeding on North Avenue on Dec. 7, and tried to stop the car. Three people got out and two ran away. The one who didn't, a 16-year-old boy, told police the passenger was anoth- er juvenile, but he had only met the driver that night and did not know his name. The second boy was found nearby, drunk with a 0.12 blood-alcohol content, the com- plaint said. As police spoke with him, Moore repeatedly called that boy's phone. The vehicle's owner said he keeps his car keys in the vehicle, but noticed the keys were missing about a week before the incident, the complaint said. Moore told police he was hanging out with the second 16-year-old in Cudahy, and that boy had a key to the van. They took the van to drive while drinking stolen liquor, the complaint said. Moore said he was the only one driving the van and fled because he was drunk. The second boy said he took the key to the Astro, intending to return later and steal it, the complaint said. Milwaukee man charged after alleged stabbing, theft attempts at Woodman's WAUKESHA — A Milwaukee man allegedly tried to stab a loss prevention agent while attempting retail theft at a Menomonee Falls Woodman's. Joshua A. Bowen, 31, is facing counts of possession of narcotic drugs, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor retail theft and disorderly con- duct. If convicted on all counts from Monday's charges, he faces more than five years in prison. According to the criminal complaint, a loss prevention agent at Woodman's, W124- N8145 Highway 145, witnessed Bowen attempt to leave the store with a cart carrying mul- tiple cases of Red Bull that he hadn't paid for on Saturday. The agent confronted Bowen and a struggle broke out, the complaint states. Bowen allegedly pulled a folding knife and made a stabbing motion with his right hand, but could not open the knife to expose the blade. Investigators found crack cocaine and heroin, along with drug paraphernalia, inside Bowen's vehicle, the complaint states. Condom portrait of pope blasted by archbishop MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Art Museum has handled dozens of complaints as some patrons drop their membership over the museums plans to display a portrait of Pope Benedict made from 17,000 condoms. Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki said the museum's decisions insulting, according to media reports. Sunday's West Side homicide investigated MILWAUKEE — Police are investigating a homicide that happened shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday in the 3500 block of West Wright Street. Police say a 44-year-old woman was shot by gunfire that was fired nearby while she was standing outside of her residence. It is not known at this time if she was the intended target, the Police Department said. She suffered a serious injury and was transported to a local hospital where she later died, the department reported. A search for motive and suspects continued, police said. MPD investigates Monday's West Side homicide MILWAUKEE — Police are investigating a homicide that happened at about 9:45 a.m. Monday in the 2600 block of North 44th Street. A 35-year-old Milwaukee man was shot outside a residence during circumstances that remain unclear and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The police continued to seek a motive and search for suspects. North 63rd Street homicide on Saturday investigated MILWAUKEE — Police said they continued to search for suspects and a motive in the Saturday homicide at about 7:20 p.m. in the 4200 block of North 63rd Street. A 21-year-old man was shot in a vehicle as he was attempting to flee from subjects after a drug-related transaction, police said. He was taken to a local hospital by a friend and died from his injuries on Sunday, police said. Milwaukee man charged with stealing woman's identity WAUKESHA — A Waukesha woman has alleged a man stole her identity to get a cash loan without her permission. Edwin Morales, 26, of Milwaukee, was charged June 24 in Waukesha County Circuit Court with identity theft. He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. A criminal complaint said a Waukesha woman reported receiving a notice from a cash loan store that her account for a $335 cash loan, which she had not opened, was past due in May 2014. She suspected Morales because she'd previously given him her Social Security number and other information to help him buy a car, the complaint said. Records of the business showed the money was direct-deposited into Morales' bank account on April 4, the complaint said. MPD: Northwest Side homicide victim found in alley MILWAUKEE — The circumstance around a homicide that happened around 11:35 p.m. Saturday remain unclear, police reported. A witness reported hearing gunshots and an unconscious 41-year-old man was found in an alley in the 3300 block of North 57th Street, police said.
