I get to manage an incredibly diverse group of 2,000 people from over 40 countries in disciplines that run the gamut on all things technical and creative. Every day of the year we get to make people happy. What is the best part of your work on One Night for One Drop? Getting to showcase the incredible array of talent we have at Cirque. We get to use the social arts to talk about the drought in the western US. With the dollars that we raise here, we are sustainably changing the lives of people in developing countries, lifting them out of poverty and giving women and girls opportunities to work and go to school. Las Vegas has been my home for more than 40 years, and I am so proud to be a part of such a vibrant and giving community. W hat ha s been your most sig nif ic a nt accom- plishment? During the boom period, I was careful not to overstaff like so many other developers, and as a result, when the recession hit, 90 percent of our staff kept t heir jobs. I moved to Las Vegas in 2003, during a time when the economy was still accel- erating to record levels. We all know what happened in 2 0 0 8 when t he f ina ncia l pa r t y ended a nd t he Nevada head l i nes were dom i nated by t he worst unemployment and foreclosure rankings in the US. As the CFO of Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada during these uncertain economic times, I helped in adding a personal touch when coaching my teams through challeng ing times, as well as sharing with our employees how they each bring value to the over- all success of our organization. Fortunately, all this hard work had a very positive impact on shaping the culture of the company, and it continues to this day. alex Stratta Chef, Alex Stratta Tapas W hat inspires your work w it h t he Clevela nd Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health? I have a personal desire to participate in the giving of my skills and abilities in joining a mission that strives to make a lasting impact against the manageable components of A lzheimer's. My goa l is to sust a in a heightened awa reness rega rding t he direct ef fect s of specif ic healthy dietary choices, which can have a significant role in slowing the debilitating effects of brain disease. In what ot her mea ning f ul ways do you enjoy g iving back to t he community? PD is unfortunately already the 14th leading cause of death in the US and is growing as the population ages. This is a significant public health concern, in addition to the impact it has on individual patients and their caregivers. Which of your professional accomplishment s are you most proud of and why? In just over three years, we have been able to develop a true home for pat ient s w it h Pa rk inson's disea se, mult iple system atrophy, and related disorders, where they can receive world-class comprehensive care, connect with cutting- edge research, and help forward new ways to diagnose and treat their diseases. I am proud to lead a family-owned company that has a reputation for excellence in the aero- space/defense industry, is recognized by its employees as a great place to work, and is known for giving back. My g ra ndpa rent s spent a month crossing the Pacific Ocean in the bottom of a ca rgo ship to come to A mer ica f rom China. T hey ca me to t his count r y w it hout for ma l educat ion or wealth. They brought a strong work ethic, a commit- ment and desire to create a better life for themselves and their families, and an understanding that liter- acy, education, and the arts are important to ensure the success of future generations.
