Sheffield cheered for the Spartans last year and is hoping to make the team again this year. "I'm looking forward to the new challenges this year will bring," said Sheffield. Freshman Chela Martinez, who has cheered for eight years and counting, is also excited for the new year and the new coaches. "I am very excited for the new coaches. I already knew them personally and I think they'll do an exceptional job this season." said Martinez. While both girls are eager for cheer, each were a little nervous about what will come in the new season. Martinez said, "I am nervous because it's going to be a lot different from last season." Junior Mary Herrera is also trying out for the sport. "I'm really excited to come back to the sport that I've been doing for many years and to be able to work again with a previous coach I've had," said Herrera. The girls spoke about the tryout routines they had to learn. "I feel that it's easier than last year's tryout dance," said Martinez. "But it's similar to a style I think we're going to learn this season." Sheffield talked about the personal effects she's bringing to the dance. really excited to see what upcoming choreography there'll be," said Herrera. On Saturday May 2, 2015 the oficialy athleates on Varisty and JV cheerleading teams was posted on the door of the RBHS gym. "It's not too hard, so it gives us room to add our own personal style," said Sheffield. Herrera is also ecstatic for the new dances at the tryouts. "The dances are definitely upbeat and fun to learn, which makes us Incoming and current Red Bluff High School students tryingout for the Varsity and JV cheerleading team on Thursday april 30, 2015. Red bluff High School boys varsity baseball team is getting closer to league championships. "I'm very excited. We already have clinched a share of the league championship, so with another win it could plunge us further into a league championship and be solo owners to that," Ryan Gamboa, junior, explained. Gamboa's position on the team is catcher. The team practices Monday's, Wednesday's and Thursday's from 3:30 to 6:00. They have played against Pleasant Valley, Foothill, Shasta, Enterprise, West valley, and Paradise High School. Sam hendricks, senior, has been playing baseball since he was four years old. Hendricks plays third base, "With the talent this year I wouldn't consider any team an easy win. You have to Varsity baseball prepares for the upcoming league championships come out every game and compete, and hope it's enough to get the win." Kolby Button is a sophomore on the team and has been playing since he was five, which has been eleven years. He plays the position of right field and pitcher, but pitcher is his favorite position. According to Walker Dodero, senior, the team has won a total of 23 games so far. They have 23-4 overall and 8-1 league games. Dodero has been playing for 12 years. The coaches are Ryland Sanders, Chris Sinclair, Lucas Sandow, Nick Emigh, and Brad Wagner. Gamboa explained his biggest supporters. "Definitely my parents, whether I make an error, strike out or lose a big game I know that they will always be there for me. I know that there will always be a next time and I have no reason to hang my head, messing up is part of the game." JV Softball team believes that they are stronger as a team Tonight, May 8, Our JV Softball team will be going against Pleasant Valley at 4 o'clock. It will be the third time the girls go against PV and the team is excited. The first time our Spartans played against PV, this season, it was during a tournament and they won 3 out of 5 games. Amaya Reed is a freshman who plays left outfield. She has been playing since she was 12, and said she played when she was younger but she hated it. Years later, she decided to take a swing at it again and Reed stated, "I feel confident and excited to play them." The girls talked about what their favorite parts about softball were and overall, it was about working as a team, bonding, and kicking butt. The team tried, and succeeded, to form a bond knowing bonds make teams stronger. The stronger a team, the stronger they play and the team makes an effort to do so because they know it gives them a better chance of winning. Respect is huge on sports teams because without respect your chances of working together on the team get very slim. If you don't work together there is no communication and everything starts to crash and burn. Communication is key in everything and that includes sports teams. The team has recently gotten a new coach and Katie Thompson, a freshman who plays center field, says he really stepped up to the plate from baseball. Thompson's sister played softball and her mom wanted her to try it aswell and now Thompson is following in her sisters sports steps. The new coach is Mike Weibling and he coached boys baseball prior to girls softball. Reed says the season was great, but it could definitely be better while Thompson stated, "This season's been a good one and i'm gonna miss it." The girls are prepared and have been practicing hard so they can take down Pleasent Valley again. They have been working on their swinging, catching, pitching, and position. As the Track and Field season comes to an end the athletes on the team push themselves harder than they have to entire season Track and Field is coming to an end as the school year comes to an end. Runners and field participants are pushing themselves to the limit to beat their personal records before the season ends. Although that's what most people hope to accomplish, a lot of people also want to make it to State. Sophomore Megan Boone, who does 4x1, 4x4, triple jump, and 300 hurdles, said," Just to getting to the know the coaches and getting to know the team," is why she loves running track. There are many aspects of track and field since it's one team with very different categories. Some players only do track, and some people only do field. Abee Sabo, freshman, said," Most people do track or field, but I do both." They also hope to improve and finish out the season strong. sabo said," I want to improve my Discus, my throw, and probably my mile." She isn't the only one from tack or field who hopes to improve. There are multiple people in track because it isn't as much of a team sport even though you are in one team and you practice together. Lauren baxter, also freshman, said, "You're kind of on your own and you get to compete as an individual." The team hopes to end the year on a high note since they have come a long way, and to also finish the last few weeks of practice and meets as strong as possible.
