Tymberlyn Bealer Sports Editor partan ound S off Red Bluff High School's Varsity Baseball coaches guide their team to victor y Red Bluff High School's Varsity Baseball team has an away game tonight at 7:00 pm at Enterprise High School. The team is confident that they'll end up victorious. Kolby Button shared, "We're all determined to win, every player on the team." When asked about the team's expectations for the entire season are, Wesley Clawson said, "We have a pretty good record, I feel like we should be undefeated. We're doing pretty well but I feel like we could be doing better." Even though the Varsity Baseball team has expectations for how their season is going to play out, they know how to handle losses appropriately. "I've learned that when we lose, we lose as a team. One person doesn't win or lose, it's the team as a whole, and I think we can grow from that," Ryan Gamboa explained. Something that keeps the boys intrigued in game of baseball is going up against their friends from other schools in our area year after year. Walker Dodero commented, "We all know each other, it's always fun playing against people you know. Boys Tennis players of different Red Bluff High School's boys tennis team has an upcoming tournament this May. Devan Schoelen, senior, said he recalls that the tennis team has won five games against Paradise, Enterprise and Foothill. They play some of the teams twice, once at home and once away. The team practices from 3:30-5:00. When Jacob Penner, sophomore, was asked how ranking is determined he said, "We have challenge matches every Friday to establish ranking." Foothill, enterprise, paradise, Red Bluff, Pleasant Valley, and Chico will be playing in the tournament. Mr. Twitchell said that the tournament will no longer be a team tournament, it is an individual tournament. Mr. Twitchell, the tennis coach, describe how a match works, "In a match, the top six players play the other team's top six. Then, there are three doubles matches. The team that wins five or more of these nine matches wins." Schoelen feels that their biggest rivalry is Enterprise, while Mr. Twichell feels it is pleasant valley. Kai Cardillo, sophomore, was asked what got him into playing tennis and he respond with, "My friend Conner Browning kept hounding me to try it." "I thought I wasn't going to be to into it, but then after two practices I ended up really liking it," Cardillo explained. Penner stated, "Most of the time Mrs. Shaffer comes out and helps with the kids that just joined." When asked if there were tryouts for the tennis team, Penner stated that you just had to sign up. "I'm excited to learn more about the sport and get better in the years to come" Penner concluded. JV Soball aims to win league As freshmen and sophomore softball players play their hardest, they get closer and bond. "We're playing good together and if we keep it up we have a shot at winning league," said Katie Thompson, freshman. Thompson is the center fielder for RBHS's JV softball team. "It's going to be a tough game. Chico is one of our big rivalries," T h o m p s o n commented prior to their game. "We've been playing pretty good lately," said Ellie Fletcher, sophomore and second baseman. Fletcher and Thompson agreed that it was difficult to get back into the swing of things after the week off. Both girls agreed that there's no drama on the team, and that they all get along very well. They also said that one of their favorite parts of playing softball is team bonding. Fletcher added, "And getting to know the people individually better." Thompson added, "And when it's a good game all of our bats are hitting and all of us are fielding good." Fletcher has played softball since she was five years old. "My whole family was always into softball; they got me into playing," Fletcher said. Thompson has been playing softball since she was nine. "My sister played so my mom made me play one year just to try it," said Thompson. As the team thrives to win as many games as they can, they also succeed in playing together as a team. The Varsity Baseball players will be playing tonight at Red Bluff High School. Clawson commented, "I think that we have a really close connection to our coaches, they really connect us." The boys' coaches help them stay focused and they also encourage them become better baseball players. "I love Sanders he's a good guy. We've been battling since day one." The coaches of this team take up a large portion of how the team plays together. Since most teams have a really tight bond with the coaches, it motivates them to perform at their best. skill levels welcomed to the team
