Police search for armed robbery suspect caught on tape MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee police are investigating an armed robbery at the Walgreens at 7171 N. Teutonia Ave. at about 3:05 p.m. April 13. A male suspect approached an employee at the register and placed an item on the counter as if he was about to purchase it. He then allegedly pulled out a gun, pointed it at the employee and demanded money. The employee complied and the suspect fled from the scene on foot with the cash, police report. The suspect is described as a black male, 19 to 20 years-old, 5 feet 11 inches, 150 to 160 pounds and a mustache. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt with a hood and dark pants. Suspect arrested, confesses to shooting gun into air MILWAUKEE — A suspect was arrested by Milwaukee police officers after he con- fessed to shooting several gunshots into the air on the city's North Side. District Five officers responded to a ShotSpotter report at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday that shots were fired in the 1000 block of West Chambers Street. About a block away, near North 10th Lane and West Burleigh Street, officers pulled over a car for a traffic violation. Police saw a handgun on the passenger seat, and the driver, a 44-year-old Milwaukee man, admitted that he fired shots into the air just a few minutes before he was pulled over. On suspicion of drinking, the suspect was asked to perform a field sobriety test, which he failed. The MPD is requesting charges of operating while intoxicated (second offense), endan- gering safety by use of a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct while armed. 4 • Milwaukee County Post • April 24, 2015 WEEK IN REVIEW STATE AND LOCAL STORIES OF INTEREST UWM issues safety alerts after attempted sexual assault and attempted strong-armed robbery MILWAUKEE — The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Police Department issued two safety alerts in two days following an attempted sexual assault and attempted strong- armed robbery. At about 1 p.m. Monday, the victim of the attempted strong-armed robbery said she was parking her vehicle in the 1900 block of East Linnwood Avenue near North Cramer Street. She said three black males approached her while she was in her vehicle when one opened the door and demanded that she get out. One was described as 5 feet 8 inches, slim and wearing a red sweatshirt. No description was given on the other two. Shortly after midnight Sunday, a UWM student was forcibly pulled into a parking lot near the 2000 block of East Linnwood Avenue but the woman broke free from the attempt- ed sexual assault. One suspect was described as a black male, age 18 to 20, 6 feet tall and long black afro- style hair, wearing a red and white striped shirt. The other was also 18 to 20 years old and 6 feet tall with a short afro hairstyle, wearing a white T-shirt. The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating the crimes. MPD investigates fatal fire as double homicide The Milwaukee Police Department, joined by investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and the state fire marshal, is investigating an April 17 fire at a home in the 2400 block of North 38th Street as arson. A 27-year-old male and an adult female, who was initially unidentified, died at the scene and their deaths are now investigated as homicides. The suspect has not been identified, however two adult males were arrested at the scene for unrelated charges. Anyone with information is asked to call Milwaukee police at 414-935-7360. South-Side homicide of 29-year-old man investigated MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Police are investigating a homicide in the 1300 block of West Holt Avenue shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday. Milwaukee Police and Fire departments were called to the report of a car that had crashed into a building.The Fire Department found the car's driver suffering from a gunshot wound. The 29-year-old Milwaukee man was taken to a local hospital where he died, police say. Police were working on finding suspects the motive for the shooting. Five teenagers arrested in stolen car linked to robbery MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee police arrested five teenagers who were in a stolen car linked to an armed robbery, after fleeing from officers. District Five officers found the 2009 Toyota Prius at about 1:20 a.m. April 17 in the 3500 block of North Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The Prius had been stolen in an armed rob- bery on April 15 in the 3700 block of South 88th Street. Officers found the car in the 3200 block of North 25th Street and took five teenagers into custody. The suspects arrested include two 14-year-old females from Milwaukee, a 16- year-old male from Milwaukee and two 17-year-old males from Milwaukee. One of the 14-year-old females, an eighth-grader, was a passenger in the stolen car that caused a deadly crash Feb. 22 at South 84th Street and West Wilbur Avenue. During an interview with police, another suspect admitted that all the occupants of the car wore gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints. Three teenagers arrested in downtown armed robbery MILWAUKEE — Three teenage suspects were arrested by Milwaukee police after a downtown armed robbery. District One officers responded to the robbery in the 100 block of West Wells Street at about 11:10 p.m. Saturday where they spoke with two female victims. The women told officers that they were in a parking lot when three suspects approached them, one of them with a gun, and demanded their belongings. The suspects took one of the victim's phones and her purse and fled on foot. Officers on patrol in the area saw the three suspects in the 600 block of North Water Street, where they were arrested. Several of the items belonging to the victim, including her driver's license and wallet, were found on the sidewalk between where the robbery happened and where the arrests took place. Officers also found an airsoft gun on the sidewalk near the crime scene. The suspects are a 14-year-old male and two 15-year-old males from Milwaukee. MPD officer injured in squad crash MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee police officer was injured following a crash at about 10:20 a.m. Monday at the intersection of North 76th Street and West Bradley Road. The District Four officer, a 56-year-old man with 15 years of service, was traveling westbound on West Bradley Road with his lights and sirens activated when he was involved in a crash with a semitrailer truck. The officer was taken to a local hospital; the injuries were not life threatening. Milwaukee man identified in West Allis double shooting WEST ALLIS — West Allis police said the man killed in a double shooting April 8 is Henry L. Hodges, 37, Milwaukee. The identity of a 20-year-old Milwaukee woman who was shot is not released as the investigation continues, West Allis Deputy Chief Robert Fletcher said in a statement. Police were called at about 10:30 p.m. April 8 to a possible shooting in the 1300 block of South 57th Street. The man was found dead of apparent gunshot wounds while the woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her gunshot wounds. The Police Department said it has identified a suspect in the shooting but is not releas- ing additional information because it could compromise the investigation. The investigation is still ongoing. Further information will be released as it is confirmed and determined its release will not compromise the ongoing investigation, Fletcher said.
