Coach Stan Twitchell expressed confi- dence in his team's offense stating, "We're off to a quick start. We have a lot of offensive weapons, but I'm a little concerned about our defense. We can definitely compete against the tough teams." In the weeks prior to Hol- liday Classic the team went to a tournament in Jackson as well as Arcata. The team took first place in Jackson and brought home third place hardware from Ar- cata. The team has high goals for the season, wanting to continue to improve each day and ultimately win a section championship. Red Bluff took consultation in last year's tournament and plan on doing even better this year. The Enterprise High bas- ketball program has had much success throughout the years. They ended last year's season with an over- all record of 19-9. They are apart of the Eastern League in the northern Section. This year's Enterprise team is composed of six se- nior players (Justin Abney, Jeremiah Backus, Isaiah Matthews, Zayd Morton, Dalen Jones, and Emanuel King) and five juniors (Ty- ler Green, Max Ostendorf, Leo Ponica, Cliff Goodwin, and Keziah Hocker). Enterprise won the tour- nament in 2002 and has placed in the rop three six times. The Hornets will have a tough match up on Thurs- day night, playing at 5:30 against Golden Valley. The Liberty Christian Pa- triots are being coached this year by Todd Franklin. Lib- erty is located in Redding, California and they are apart of the Five- Star League in the Northern Section. They are a division six school, but they do not lack in talent. Last year the Patri- ots finished their season with an overall record of 25-5. Liberty Christian has never played in the Holiday Classic and will be taking the place of Paradise High School this year. The patriots are going into the tournament with two wins and two losses. This year will have been the third year that the Pleas- ant Valley Vikings will have competed in the Holliday Classic tournament under Head Coach Tim Keating. The Vikings are coming off of a 13-14 record from last year and looking to have a better season this year. They are having a rough start to this season losing their first four games. Despite the losses the team is staying positive due to all four of the losses being against division one schools. Even though the team is not off to a fast start, Coach Keating believes it is only making the team better stat- ing, "Great kids and I hope seeing tough guys are Valley is League in Section. The Golden Valley Cou- gars are still fairly new to the Holiday Classic tour- nament, returning for only their second year. Despite being rookies to the tournament last year, the Cougars took second place. They lost in the champion- ship game to Lake Oswego by only one point. They had a chance to win the game in the last few seconds of the game, but missed the lay-up that would have put them on top. They ended last year's season with a record of 22-7. Golden Valley High is located in Merced, Califor- nia and they are apart of the Central California Confer- ence in the San Joaquin Sec- tion. The team has high expec- tations for the season. Coach Jerry Stillahn commented, "Our goal is always to win our league, which we have done four of the last five years, and make playoffs." They are rivals with the Chico High Panthers. Last year against the Panthers the Vikings won two games and lost two games. They play Thursday at 4:00 against Lake Oswego. Lake Oswego is back for another year and will be de- fending last year's title as Holiday Classic Champions. The Lakers had a decent year last season finishing with an overall record of 13- 12. Despite just an average year last year, the Lakers have proven at the holiday classic tournament to be quite the competition, taking first place five times and fin- ishing within the top three seven times. Lake Oswego is located in Oregon. They are apart of 6A Three Rivers League. Their rival school is the Lakeridge Pacers. Last sea- son the Lakers took three of the four games against their rival school. Del Norte is entering the tournament this year for the first time in Holiday Classic history. The Warriors are apart of the Humboldt-Del Norte- Big 5 League in the North Coast Section. The team is rivals with the Arcata Tigers and de- feated the Tigers in last year's season in the two games they faced off. They ended last year's season with a winning re- cord of 10-9. The Warriors will be squaring off with the Red Bluff Spartans on Thursday night at 7:00. Located in South Med- ford Oregon, South Med- ford High may be the team to be this season. In last year's season they had an overall record of 21- 8. They also have quite the history of success in the Holiday Classic tourna- ment. Throughout the last twenty-five years they have won the tournament four times and placed in the top three ten times. Last year the Panthers finshed fith in the Holiday Classic tournament. They defeated Red Bluff, but lost to Golden Valley and Frank- lin. The team is currently struggling due to the loss of three keys players, who are out because of injuries. They are apart of the 6A Southwest League and their rival school is North Med- ford. They play Thursday at 8:30 against Liberty Chris- tian. we have been seeing tough completion, so my guys are getting use to it." Pleasant Valley is part of the Eastern League in the Northern Section.
