Page 4 December 17, 2014 Arts and Entertainment Ryan Fisher Editor-In-Chief A truly awe-inspiring and moving film that will be nominated for an Academy Award. 'Interstellar' sparks strong emotions In 'Interstellar', Matthew McConaughey, sets out on a journey to discover a new planet that the human race can live on as if it were the Earth itself because Earth is becoming uninhabitable. Becca Blanchard Editor-In-Chief 'Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer' Timeless classic that remains new. 'Interstellar', a sci-fi thriller directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Matthew McConaughey, depicts the future of life on earth after a second "Dust Bowl" hits the world. Life on Earth is scarce as food sources drop and the world is in need of water. Cooper (McConaughey) is a farmer who once was a pilot for NASA and since the world is in peril and needs more farmers and less scientists the government closes NASA for good. McConaughey has two kids, Murph, played by Mackenzie Foy, Jessica Chastain, and Ellen Burstyn and Tom played by Timothee Chalamet and Casey Affleck. Cooper finds that his daughter is talking to some "ghost" as, McConaughey says, in her room. Murph, claims that the ghost is trying to communicate to her using codes such as Binary and Morse. After a big dust storm both Cooper and Murph find obvious dirt lines on the floor of Murph's bedroom. After further analyzing the lines Cooper figures out it is actually binary code for a set of coordinates. Both Cooper and daughter Murph go to the coordinates and find a secret lab. The lab ran by Professor Brand (Michael Caine) says that the lab is a revitalised branch of NASA. He then tells McConaughey that Earth is becoming uninhabitable and needs to relocate to another planet. He then mentions that a wormhole has opened next to Saturn and can take them to a certain place in the galaxy which has previously been explored and which they have found 3 planets that are similar to Earth. Professor Brand asks Cooper to pilot an expedition with a crew of other NASA scientists and robots to retrieve the data from the planets to see if it can sustain life. Now to begin I would like to say that this movie in more than one way is truly amazing. The special effects is definitely one of its greatest qualities along with the film's dialogue. Even though Interstellar is a sci-fi film, the movie runs smoothly and is easy to understand. All the important details that you need to know to understand the film are understandable and not confusing. Matthew McConaughey's role in this film was really well done. How he portrayed the loving and caring father that his character represents is truly awe inspiring. The film is definitely a tear jerker and you will cry at least 2 or 3 times throughout the film. Besides the tears, director Christopher Nolan has done it again with this film. Nolan directed the recent 'Dark Knight' trilogy and has proved to the movie industry that he can film more than just batman movies. 'Bad Lip Reading' entertains Savannah Sutliff Topics Editor The perfect movie to get into the holiday spirit! Bluffer Staff Pick (1989) 'Christmas Vacation' 'Christmas Vacation' is about the hilarious, messy holiday trip chaos of the Griswolds. National Lampoon's 'Christmas Vacation' was released in 1989 and has been beloved as a modern Christmas classic ever since because of its relatable and hilarious mess of scenarios that will get you ready for the chaos of the holidays. Christmas vacation is the holiday sequel to the pervious vacation movies but outshines them by mixing their unique type of comedy with yule tide fun and family. 'Christmas Vacation' follows the holiday misadventures of the Griswold Family which includes Chevy Chase as Clark W. "Sparky" Griswold, Jr., Beverly D'Angelo as Ellen Smith Griswold, Randy Quaid as Cousin Edward "Eddie" Johnson, Juliette Lewis as Audrey Griswold, and Johnny Galecki as Rusty "Russ" Griswold. The plot is about a classic holiday get together that takes a chaotic turn that is although cringe worthy equally hilarious. This movie is a holiday classic that everyone can enjoy and was one of the first to bring Christmas movies in to the modern age and back into the main stream to be a favorite to young and old alike. During the holidays it's easy to find a lot of movies that show all the wonder of Christmas without any of the realistic chaos, frustration and confusion which is refreshingly dominant in this hilarious and slightly realistic comedy. This movie also has one of the funniest men of all time as the lead role and he shines more than ever in this movie because no one knows how to have a hilarious break down Like Chevy Chase and during the holidays. It's fun to see someone just a little bit more stressed out than you especially when it's this hilarious. So if you are looking for a fun Christmas comedy that will show you the side of Christmas not everyone wants to acknowledge this is the movie for you. seligfilmnews.com A great YouTube channel! Try it out sometime! 'Bad Lip Reading' is a YouTube channel started three years ago with some muted clips of politicians talking and some voices of several friends mocking them with small bits of conversations that don't make any sense when put all together that got some giggles. Soon they moved on to popular TV shows and movies, and they haven't stopped getting people to laugh ever since with their constant new posts of poorly read lips. Now, in the wake of the crazes for all things popular, they have taken full advantage and made it fuel for their fires. When in need of something to keep you entertained, this YouTube channel is the place to go for all sorts of fun that will make others think you were in the front row of a Jeff Dunham special. Seriously, it is that funny sometimes. Recent posts have given a glimpse into random conversations in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire", "The Walking Dead", and even the "Twilight" series. with incredibly great humor "I myself enjoyed a five- minute session from "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" that included an iguana, plums, a band, and an amazing turkey sandwich." -Brianna Tackmier Brianna Tackmier A and E Editor These conversations will make you laugh your socks off while passing time with hilarious sarcasm and jokes. Some of these are more popular than others due to their level of randomness and, at times, stupidity. I myself enjoyed a five-minute session from "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" that included an iguana, plums, a band, and an amazing turkey sandwich. I almost literally laughed my socks off over these clips, and with a wide variety to choose from, they're certain to make almost anyone laugh out loud. What's even better, the characters actually look like they're saying what is being heard, adding to all the YouTube fun 'Bad Lip Reading' provides. Besides, everyone needs some form of getaway from the stress of life, school, and any other major events, and the makers of the 'Bad Lip Reading' clips completely understand this concept of needing a break. What's more, they don't just provide funny conversations about sandwiches and reptiles, they have even managed to do songs about events passed in the NFL (particularly last year's Super Bowl), and even from movies or TV shows. Truly, if you're searching for the next set of videos that leave you breathless from laughter or just need to get away from the painful and stressful side of life, 'Bad Lip Reading' is sure to keep the punchlines rolling for a long time with its funny, random, mildly inappropriate, and easy to find sets of video clips on their YouTube channel. http://www.interstellar-movie.com/images/bg.jpg Though it may not be the newest movie, 'Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer' is an annual event in my mind. In fact, it isn't Christmas until I sit down, drink some cliché hot chocolate and watch it. For those who haven't seen this classic film, don't fret as it is shown every year a few times. This is what allows it to be seen as a "new movie" even though it's been an annual tradition in my family since my own grandma. I actually recently heard a young child talking to her mother about this new movie that she watched as she proceeded to sing the classic song. This classic film follows the trials and tribulations of a family in search of their grandmother who happened to have been hit by one of Santa's reindeer. The young grandson, Jake (Alex Doduk), has his belief in Santa tested when his family does not believe that he has witnessed this outrageous event. There's also I brief chance that I made that sound much more elaborate than it is…okay so it's a cute Christmas cartoon with catchy songs and adorable animation. That said, I have yet to see any new modern(ish) cartoons that can hold a peppermint candle to this 2000 movie. This film is a perfect blend of cartoon people, dogs, and reindeer alongside real voices saying some of the sweetest dialogue and singing the cutest songs. This cartoon isn't just for children or adults who refuse to grow up, any age will absolutely love this movie. becomes annual tradition across nation
