The farm lives up to its standards for frightful amusment beloved horror films as Prom Night (1980), Terror Train (1980), The Fog (1980), and Road Games (1981) but Halloween started it all. Jamie lee Curtis plays the perfect innocent naive girl that gets unexpectedly thrust into a terrifying situation and very unrealistically happens to come out on top. While watching this movie you may think that Jamie's character plays into the girl in a scary movie cliché but what you need to remember is that because this movie was one of the original Bluffer Staff Pick 'Halloween'(1978) Kaylie Capps Staff Writer Josiah Vasey Opinions Editor Savannah Sutliff Topics Editior A really fun and scary place! A must watch classic horror film! A good series that has come a long way from its first season! This movie is nothing special. Hawes farm has always been the stand out for harvest fun in northern California for its pumpkin patch, corn maze, and hunted amusements but is Hawes still living up to its high expectations ? Well not too much has changed at Hawes this year they still have their legendary pumpkin patch and corn maze as well as their haunted amusements which consist of the field of screams( a haunted corn maze),The carnival of fear( a haunted house) and Zombie paint ball. Although the amusements and events are the same as last year Hawes still delight with their polished and well done rides that will genuinely scare you. Hawes has many great attractions but if you only have time for one I suggest the Field of screams because in my opinion that is where Hawes farm really shines, every aspect of this terrifying corn maze from the torches at the entrance to the scary music that blast out of several large speakers is put together perfectly to make your experience scary and entertaining from start to finish. The maze has several different sections that will surprise you at every corner and a fair share of spooks that will keep you moving quickly through this decked out maze. On the other hand the carnival of fear although not badly done is more of your standard haunted house with a little carnival kick that makes it a more unique experience but it still not too much to shout about especially when compared to the field of screams. Hawes also offers a less scary amusement in their Zombie paint ball which focuses more on telling the story of a zombie outbreak and gets you pumped to do some zombie shooting, all in all although this ride lacks in scare it is still fun, well done and entertaining. Hawes it definitely the best place to go if you are looking some scary fun but I do have one complaint, although the amusements offered now more than do more than enough to scare visitors I do miss the classic haunted house that was once offered called the Dread Shed was personally one of the best haunted houses I had ever been to and I be even more inclined to make a trip to Hawes farm if it were to return. Overall Hawes is a really fun and scary. You know, I was really looking forward to Ouija sucking horribly. I went into the theater prepared to tear this movie apart. Unfortunately, Ouija wasn't bad. It was just mediocre. This is unfortunate because writing reviews about bland, average movies like this is so boring. I can barely remember the movie and I just saw it last night. It's already fading from my memory, and how couldn't it? Remember that part in The Evil Dead 2, where the dead girlfriend is ballet dancing outside with her muscles exposed? Or that scene in Alien where the chest burster explodes from that one dudes chest? Weren't those scenes great and original? Remember that one part in Ouija where that character turned around and saw a stupid CG ghost girl in the mirror? Yeah, niether do I. So, the plot. Well, there's this Ouija board. Some high schoolers decide to use an ouija board, I don't know why, maybe they get off on letting dark spirits into their bodies. Of course, things happen, people die (spoilers), blah blah. This movie's story is nothing you haven't seen before in a million different horror movies. Except it was more boring. I closed my eyes a lot during this movie. Not out of fear-out of sleepiness. There are just so many long stretches of nothing happening. One thing I will give Ouija is that it didn't have the stereotypical horror movie cliché characters. The downside to this is that they had NO character. A good way to evaluate a character is to ask someone to describe them without talking about their looks. Let's do this with the protagonist of Oujia:… She's…female?... I'm drawing a blank here. But you don't go to a horror movie for character drama, you go for the thrills, the adrenaline rush of fear! How does Ouija fair in this aspect? Well, it made me jump twice. But I wasn't scared, I was just…startled. This movie just isn't very scary. It's got jump scares, but the imagery was all boring and stale. No creativity was exerted in the making of this movie. I just don't really know what else to say about Ouija. It's really just another dumb possesion movie, nothing worth seeing. Halloween was released in 1978 it was directed and scored by John Carpenter, co-written with producer Debra Hill, and starring Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis in her film debut. Halloween was produced on a budget of $325,000 and grossed $47 million at the box office in the United States making it one of the highest grossing independent films of all time. The plot of this corny yet chilling independent horror follows the demented Michael Myers who at the age of six brutally murders his baby sitter with a butcher knife on Halloween night. Michael is put in a metal institution and kept under close watch by the psychiatrist, Dr. Samuel Loomis (Donald Pleasence). Years later on a dark Halloween night Dr. Loomis comes to find that Jason has escaped and is concerned that Jason's old habit of stalking and killing young babysitters will start up again. The damsel in distress of this classic horror is none other than the queen of cult classic horror films Jamie Lee Curtis who in her carrier as an actress has been in such slasher films ever made Jamie is not playing into the cliché but creating it. This movie is full of corny dialogue and so much anticipation that you might get a little bored before anybody gets killed but if you want to see the movie that shaped all scary movies you see today and have a few good laughs as you see some of the most unrealistic death scenes of all time this is the movie for you. This film also has one of the most famous ominous theme songs of all time and it does add a lot of suspense and does a fair job of creeping you out but because they play the song every two minutes the repetition will get the combination of scary tones stuck in your head for week to come. All in all this movie is one of the most famous horror films of all time and if you want to see the scary movie that started it all I suggest you give it a try. In the first season of the Walking Dead, the characters are not aware of what is going on and don't know that much about these zombies, or what they like to call 'Walkers,' but t h r o u g h o u t the seasons the characters have gained m o r e k n o w l e d g e about the Walkers . In the b e g i n n i n g of the first season Rick Grimes is a former S h e r i f f Deputy who has been in coma for several months, and when he woke up was unaware of what has been going on, and now in the beginning of the fifth season he is a strong, unbeatable person. His son Carl Grimes in the beginning of the first season he was a reserved, scared little boy who didn't know what was going on, but now in the fifth season he has a bold personality and is strongly independent. Throughout the seasons there are disappointments that have caused the characters to change their personalities. For example, Carl was shy and would only talk to his parents or people he was comfortable with when this outbreak had happened and now he is very brave and has very strong opinions for when it comes to surviving. The Walking Dead Characters have come a long way from where they had begun. From being in hospitals to in the woods and from finding a good place to stay and then having it be destroyed right in front of their eyes. The Walking Dead is an excellent series; it always keeps you on the edge of your seat or on the tips of your feet. If you ever have free time or just want to watch something good, go on to Netflix and watch season one through four of the Walking Dead. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. It will make you keep asking yourself questions. What's going on? What's going to happen next? Take into consideration, this probably won't happen in our life time, but this is a good show series to get you aware of what could happen if this were to become real. Let's get real though, this probably will not happen in our life time, but it would be kind of cool to know what could happen.
