Paradise Drive, West Bend, WI Cortisone Injections Cortisone injections are often offered by medical doctors to mask a patients pain. It is a misconception Cortisone heals an injury. Patients should understand that when Cortisone is discussed as an anti-inflammatory, it is actually referencing a chemical pathway that eventually produces pain. In essence, Cortisone reduces the production of pain chemicals. That is far different from actually healing an injury. This is often why patients present to our office having had many tests, physical therapy perhaps, and injections to heal their problem, but have not made any progress. Cortisone does not heal. It masks the pain. If you have been offered a cortisone shot, the question we encourage all patients to ask themselves is, "Will this help me heal the injury and lead to a better outcome, months from now?" The answer is usually no. Cortisone is offered by your medical doctor because you are in pain, and that is the next treatment in line, after previous efforts have failed. It is up to you, the patient, to investigate what Cortisone actually does. A Doctor of Chiropractic actually uses the ability of your own body to grow and heal, and to help you recover from your injury. Many patients are often surprised at the help they can get when they were told there was no further help available for them. Patients often ask, "Why was Chiropractic not mentioned to me as an option for treatment?" The simple answer is, Chiropractic is available, but the patient has to self refer to the Chiropractor on their own. Each patients problems are unique and require a Doctor with the time and experience to treat them. Many patients love Chiropractic because treatment does not consist of drugs or more surgery, and the proven scientific fact that chiropractic works. If you have been offered Cortisone injections, it may be time to look elsewhere for your recover and healing. It is time to call McCormack Chiropractic!
