16 TEHAMA - THE MAGAZINE, October 2014
Where the buyers
come from differs
from year to year.
In 2014, six out
of 20 dogs were
purchased by people
in California, with
three of those buyers
being from Red Bluff,
according to the
results listed on the
Red Bluff Bull Sale
website.
The sale, which averaged about $4,200 per
dog in 2014, also serves as a fundraiser for
Water For Life, as do the bull and gelding
sales. The non-profit organization works
to protect and promote agricultural water
rights and advocates for responsible land
stewardship.
Traditionally, an animal is auctioned off and
last year's dog, DSW Rex, who was consigned
by Merle Newton, raised about $13,000 after
being donated back and auctioned off more
than half a dozen times.
The 2015 event is scheduled for January
27-31 at the Tehama District Fairground.
