Post Staff MILWAUKEE — Marquette University reacted to the news that former student and freelance journalist James Wright Foley has been killed by Islamic State mili- tants. U.S. officials said a video posted online Tuesday shows Islamic State militants beheading Foley. As of press time, the authenticity was being verified, however Foley's family in Rochester, N.H., con- firmed his death on a website that was cre- ated to rally support for him. Foley, 40, worked in several Middle East conflict zones, including Syria, Libya and Iraq. He was abucted along with another journalist while working near the village of Taftanaz, located in the northern province of Iraq. Foley graduated from Marquette in 1996. "The Marquette community is deeply saddened by the death of alumnus and free- lance journalist, James Foley. We extend our heartfelt prayers and wishes for heal- ing to James' family and friends during this very difficult time. James used his immense talents to tell the difficult stories in the hopes that they might make a differ- ence in the world — a measure of his char- acter for which we could not be prouder," it said in a statement. However, there are some things you can do to help prevent cataracts. Avoid smoking; it increases the risk of developing cataracts. Protect your eyes in the sun; wear sunglasses that block out the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Eat a diet rich in antioxidant-packed fruits and vegetables. Omega-3s from fish may also have a protective effect. Having diabetes may also increase the risk of cataracts, so it is important to follow any specified treatment plan to manage the condition.
