By DAVE FIDLIN Special to The Post MILWAUKEE — The cool summer after- noon breeze was a stark contrast to the heated words exchanged throughout the recent Milwaukee County Sheriff's race — a race that gained national attention and brought in a historic amount of outsider money. After the ballots were counted, incum- bent Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. gathered outside the Milwaukee County Safety Building — a facility he has worked in for a dozen years — and addressed the media about the recent campaign primary. Clarke last week edged out opponent Chris Moews, a lieutenant on the Milwaukee Police Department, in the Democratic primary race for sheriff. Clarke received 52 percent of the votes cast. "I trust the voters of this county, and I respect their decisions," Clarke said, point- ing to the results. "The amount of outside money that came in was unprecedented. But my base came alive and said, 'Get that crap out of here.'" Although Clarke's fourth term in office is not official, analysts believe he will hand- ily take the position. During the November general election, he is facing off against former lobbyist Angela Walker. She is running on an inde- pendent platfor m and is a relative unknown. No candidate is running as a Republican in this year's sheriff's race. During last week's question-and-answer session, the people Clarke has clashed DID YOU KNOW?
