JV baseball team preparing for their biggest competitor Boys golf team determined to reach their season goals Taylor Nguyen Staff Writer "Yesterday's homeruns do not win today's game." -Evan Tanner The Red Bluff High School's boys' golf team had started their season on March 6. The boys are very deter- mined this season and have their eyes on their goal. According to the boys' golf team, their strongest players would have to be sophomore Derek Rennels, junior Dylan Grossman and senior Kyler Puckett. When asked, Grossman said, "We're a pretty decent and close team. Some of us have already known each oth- er before we started playing on the golf team, so we're all comfortable with each other." Even though golf is an indi- vidual sport, the boys work well together and they use it to their advantage. Each player watches an- other when they are playing, so they can learn from one an- other; this especially goes for the new and younger players on the team. "I definitely want to pitch in and help the younger guys on the team improve like help with their swings. Everyone starts out as a beginner," said Grossman. The boys' golf team excels in putting and chipping. Dylan Weir, junior, said "our biggest strength would have to be the team's top three, Derek Ren- nels, Dylan Grossman, and Kyler Puckett. The golf team has been working diligently to improve on their weaknesses as well such as driving long range and their consistency. According to freshman Nathen Fregosso, "We can only get better by practicing on the range and we know the home course very well so we take advantage of it." Last year during their 2012-2013 season, the top four of the team made it to playoffs. This year, they're determined to make it to playoffs and then move for- ward to championships. The team takes advantage of every second they have on the course whether it's during practice or during a match. The players make sure they improve in any way they can to prepare for their goals throughout the season. "I hope to make it to the NORCAL Championships in- dividually," said Grossman. The Red Bluff High School's golf team is deter- mined this season to make it all the way. Their next match will be on Tuesday Apr 29 at the Partner Tourney.
