Page 5 April 17, 2014 Arts and Entertainment Kylee Bonds Staff Writer 'Noah'has strong performances, but weak storyline 'Noah', released on March 28 2014, was an epic story of courage, sacrifice, and hope. (Russell Crowe) plays star role Noah. He impresses the audience with his much grounded, powerful performance. 'Noah' is a biblically- inspired film; based on the biblical tale of Noah's Ark. Noah is accompanied by his wife Naameh (Jennifer Connelly), and his three sons, Shem (Douglas Booth), Ham (Logan Lerman), and Japheth (Leo McHugh Carroll). When Noah has a disturbing dream that is believed to be a message from God, he quickly f lees with his family to go see his grandfather, Methuselah (Anthony Hopkins). On their journey there, they come across a group of killed people and they discover a young girl that had survived; her name is Ila (Emma Watson), and they adopted her into their family. When Noah reaches his grandfather, he is given a seed passed down from the Garden of Eden. This seed is meant to give Noah a number of miracles in order to build an Ark for the oncoming storm that is signified to destroy the Earth. The Ark is built to house all animals and innocent living matter. Noah convinces the Watchers (six-armed stone golems), to help him build an ark in duty for the Creator. Many different struggles come to Noah as he builds the ark but as long as he is Wait to see it on DVD. in the hands of God, he gets the job done. Many Christians were disappointed with the movie, while others were not. I noticed a majority of young people really enjoyed the movie, while adults had a slightly different opinion about it. 'Noah' the movie did not follow the events that occurred in the story, Noah's Ark. Directors say they had to change it up to make it interesting and exciting. I think this film does not fit a Christian's preconceptions of what a biblical epic should look like. I was quite disappointed myself with the film, some of the scenes were offensive to me because they were almost completely twisted from the truth of the actual story. I would give this movie a four out of five for its graphics and acting, but otherwise a simple two out of five for the storyline. This movie is definitely a movie that can wait to be watched over DVD. However, I do believe readers should watch it so they can form their own opinion on the movie. crossmap.christianpost.com From vibrant colors to the authentic Brazilian music, Rio 2 offers a kid friendly movie that is perfect for the family; however, as I was watching this film I noticed that it wasn't as up to par compared to the first. Rio 2 presents Blu and Jewel with their kids and friends heading into the Brazilian rainforest experiencing life- changing adventures. The film stars Jewel, played by Anne Hathaway, and Blu, played by Jesse Eisenbserg, and more was added to the cast such as Bruno Mars. It takes place in the beautiful Rio de Janerio. Jewel, the wife of Blu, wants to show their kids how she lived when she grew up as a child. She wants the life of nature for her family, and she believes it's what is the best for them. As the family of the Blue Macaws and their friends take the journey into the rainforest, they discover there's a whole flock of birds just like them, including Jewel's long lost father Eduardo. From Blu trying to one up a childhood friend of Jewel's to the birds doing whatever it takes to save their home, this trip ensures a crazy adventure. As I was watching this movie, it seemed like there were too many plots going on at once. At some parts throughout the film, it even seemed like the writers ran out of ideas for the characters. It wasn't the same as the first movie, Rio, which was released in 2011. There wasn't as much adventure and fun; it had lost its magic. Rio 2 never ceased to present beautiful colors and the Brazilian cultures, but it didn't match up to the first film. Frankly, I enjoyed Rio much better than Rio 2. However, it's still a great movie and a fun one to watch with the family. A vibrantly colorful film, fun to watch as a family, but not as enjoyable as the original Taylor Nyugen Topics Editor Maggie Tallan Copy Editor Red Bluff's new show 2014 marked the year of Red Bluff High School's first ever Science Show, a look into the realms of physics, chemistry, and applying scientific concepts to everyday phenomena. Mr. Kennedy, the physics teacher, with the help of a number of students, put on the show April 5th. Taking place in the PAC, the true "show" aspect is what set this event apart from a science fair. A science show is a spectacle for all to observe, like a play or concert. The show was specially crafted for children to enjoy, tailored with numerous visual demonstrations that left kids scientifically pondering the world around us. Mr. Kennedy utilized a number of different tools such as liquid nitrogen and a bowling ball to illustrate different laws and concepts. I highly enjoyed the show, especially as a person who Definitely worth watching and supporting!!! wouldn't choose science as a favorite class. I enjoyed looking at these science ideas from a visual standpoint. This better allowed me to apply the concepts to movements and occurrences I witness every day, which was the overall goal of the show, I'd say. One of my favorite parts was the grand finale, when Kennedy used evaporating liquid nitrogen to cause an incredible explosion of ping pong balls from a trash can. Something else I highly commend Kennedy and the physics class for is the way the science show was highly accessible to all ages, and the concepts were not too difficult or mind boggling for any single age group to understand. This significantly added to the audience at the show, and created a more positive experience for the children of surrounding schools. This game has no real storyline but because of the simple premise it's not a necessary aspect and the app still succeeds in sending you on a fun gaming adventure. The entire show exceeded my expectations completely and I would definitely attend again in the future, given the chance. I would be delighted to see another science show in the future here at the high school. It allows kids to stare and enjoy at something other than their televisions for an evening, and it interested even the most anti- science students and adults that came to witness. Thank you Mr. Kennedy and all of the physics students that were involved for a great show!
