Mikayla Moore Staff Writer On March 19, a day labeled "National Ag Day"; thousands of FFA members from numerous chapters all over the state of California came together in a sea of blue and gold riding on hope, filled with determination to fight for one important statewide cause. Students traveled to Sacramento in vans and busses in mass to rally to maintain and to keep valuable funding flowing to agriculture programs all over the state. Students walked through the capital building meeting senators and exploring spaces. There were tents set up with different vendors, tractors, and Ag supporters all over. Students attended press conferences where senators in favor of bill "2033" spoke about how they would fight to keep our funding. You could feel the electricity in the air as a mass of blue jackets and strong voices stood on the steps of the capital building below the windows of the senators' offices shouting things such as "Save F-F-A "and, "Pass bill 2033'. News crews from all over came to record the happening as Ag advisors and teachers stood below the huge group of students in awe. Upon speaking to freshman Brittany Wright who attended National Ag Day said that the trip to Sacramento was quite the experience. Wright said, "It was a great way to show how much we as members support FFA and how important the program is to us." When speaking about what she as an individual got out of the experience Wright said, "It showed me personally that if you stand up for what you believe in you can make things happen and you alone can make that happen no matter the circumstances." Wright said that she believes they will not eliminate the funding to programs because, "as students we showed such intense power and dedication while there". As many of you know already or have guessed while walking past the 'Coming Home' signs, there is a new dance in town. However, 'Coming Home' replaced a dance called the 'Black Light Dance'. This dance was going on for years and was switched to a Sadie Hawkins Dance this year because of a few different reasons. Amy Shoff, senior, said, "This year we decided to do something different and fun. Also we have nothing to do second semester so it gave us something to do." The Black Light Dance was the regular, guy ask girl. Well, really anyone could ask. The lights would be off like a normal dance except there were black lights. They were going for a different attitude during this dance, they had different music. The music wasn't as much of pop as the dances now. It was more techno and different music then the regular or predicted dance music style. Even though it was a unique and different dance, they had slow songs to dance to just like the rest of the school dances. The goal for switching out the dances is more student participation. The cost is not a factor really, but more than 100 kids need to show up. According to Mr. Wagner, the Student Government teacher, the other goal for the dance is "so everyone who comes has a great time". There were two main differences between the dances. First was the obvious who asks who situation. Then there was the location. They had the Black Light Dance in the cafeteria, Student Government decided to switch the dance to be in the gym. Spring break blooms into an exciting week Outside the Box Brianna Tackmier Staff Writer Mikayla Moore Staff Writer One problem most of us face in our lives is that all humans have never seemed able to think up a solution to is how to deal with other people. The main reason: we don't think alike. Citizens are all diverse. Not only that, but we are all different ages as well. There are probably a hundred different reasons why it's so hard to deal with others, but these two stand out the most to us. For the main part, if people thought alike all the time, life would be boring. Very boring. However, that is why some of us find it so hard to be with others. Some are very controlling, and others let loose and cut the rest of us some slack sometimes. This is one thing demonstrated by an older sibling. Sometimes older siblings are very strict with us, but if we do something, like yell at them or explain our problem, they cool down with us. Really, these problems can be solved by cooperating. Sometimes cooperation isn't necessary, yes, but it makes life so much easier almost all the time. Now, the real point I have to make about this situation. Age. Teenagers in particular have communication errors with their parents all the time. No matter how hard we try, we can't seem to accurately convey our thoughts to adults at all. Almost always, the reply is something like "That's childish, kid." or "Only a kid would do that, sweetie." And we rarely ever get to rephrase that sentence in time. The ironic thing is, the solution to these problems are in the answers our siblings give us! If everyone thinks in a slightly more juvenile way, then we speak that way as well and it gets so much easier to understand the public. It makes sense because kids understand each other most easily compared to those of the other age groups. Besides, don't most of us miss those days where it was so easy to talk to others sometimes? Spring is now officially here, and along with Spring comes one of the biggest American academic breaks known to mankind. It's the week that every high school and college student waits for all school year, Spring break! Over the years, spring break has evolved from a simple break from studies to be one of the wildest, and craziest weeks in academic history. It's typically filled with sun, water, good friends, and occasionally even some drinking. However you choose to spend it though, it is always greatly looked forward to. Every year it happens the same way, spring rolls around, we start making plans, we begin to get anxious, spring break comes and then before we know it, it has been through and is gone. But regardless if it goes by quickly or drags on, spring break is one of the biggest memory making weeks of a high school or college student's life. It can consist of acquired loves, lost loves, and even multiple loves, It's no secret that spring break isn't exactly known for innocent simple "gatherings". You see, in California we do spring break the right way. Upon speaking to senior, Nik Beeman, he said although he and his friends will be working over spring break they will be, "doing fun things and going to some parties". According to Beeman he must make money so that he can spend money. Beeman said he feels spring break should be later in the season though to increase the chance of better, warmer weather. While we here at RBHS are still awaiting our spring break, many schools around us have already had their spring break; our break seems to always be a little later than most other schools. Our break is eleven days long and begins on the eighteenth of April and ends on the twenty ninth of April. It also conveniently falls on the Round Up. This year Red Bluff High School is holding the first Sadie Hawkins Dance in quite a few years. Mr. Wagner shared, "Student Government got the idea to do a Sadie Hawkins Dance from wanting to do a dance that was the opposite of Homecoming." There will be a powder-puff game for the Sadie's dance that is senior girls against junior girls. The proper attire to wear to the Sadie Hawkins dance is matching T-Shirts with your date or group for the night, April 17 th from 9:00pm to 12:00am. Student government is bringing back this dance in hopes that it will get our students more excited for a dance. Also, Sadie's is more appealing to the majority of our school rather than the Black Light Dance. The most obvious reason why this dance is more appealing is because this a reverse dance, the girls ask the guys to this dance. Mr. Wagner said, "Student government took a vote to have the Sadie's dance this year. There are a lot of girls in student government and the wanted to feel empowered." Last year Red Bluff High School had a Black Light dance instead of Sadie's. In order for a dance to take place there has to be a certain amount of tickets sold so that the school doesn't lose money and last year there was barely enough tickets sold. Mr. Wagner said, "The cost to hold the Sadie Hawkins dance at Red Bluff High School isn't significantly different than another dance." Student government is hoping that changing the dance this year will create more tickets sold and get the school more spirtted.
