Construction was overseen by mill owner Dietrich Wittenberg, who envisioned the building as a gift for his daughter and her husband. The museum's grand, red brick structure, with its delightful turret, is a combination of Romanesque, Queen Anne and Classical architecture. Despite the fact that the building was once converted into multi-tenant apartments, the original oak and maple woodwork and charming hand-painted canvases on the ceiling in the front foyer still exist. Original stained glass graces the open staircase that leads up to the second floor. And windows on the second and third levels provide a bird's-eye view of Cedarburg's Historic District. The Cedarburg Art Museum and its initial 49 paintings were donated to the people of Cedarburg by a trust fund created for the community by Ozaukee Bank with the mission to establish and maintain a permanent forum that will collect, exhibit and preserve for the ages, the artwork of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, and its surrounding areas. We invite you to attend our OCHS quarterly meeting on Monday, May 5th, at the Cedarburg Cultural Center, when speakers from the Cedarburg Art Museum will talk about the museum and its programs, the building's architecture and the Jochem family. Whether you've already visited the museum, or plan to do so soon, mark your calendar for May 5th and bring your friends. The Cedarburg Cultural Center is located in downtown Cedarburg; our business meeting begins at 7:00 pm, with the presentation starting at 7:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. 12 Years a Slave See Page 6 For Details 5/31/14. 237980001 7259 Sleepy Hollow Rd.
