Through the NSAA Arts Mills, "emerging artists ben- efit" from the "supportive environment" the venue cre- ates, said Arts Mill Program Director Paula DeStefanis. There are 17 artists rent- ing studios in the Mill, but the numbers "ebb and flow as artists change," DeStefanis said. Artists are also able to get involved with the Mill through the Artists in Residence program, which, according its web- site, is "designed to support artists, the creative process and the development of new ideas and work." The program, sponsored by Port Washington State Bank, allows artists-in-resi- dence to stay for a four- to eight-week period, during which they are able to uti- lize the studio space and thrive off of the other artists' creative energy, she said. Although all artists have work available for sale at the Mill, DeStefanis said, "Artwork comes first and sales come second." The purpose of the Mill, she said, is not for the artists to make a large profit, but to flourish in the artistic environment and grow as artists. In exchange for the bene- fits the Mill provides to the renting artists, they in turn volunteer their time toward the venue, DeStefanis said. Exhibits are shown in the upstairs gallery. Currently, Peep Show II is on display. The show will bring out the Arts Mill's most unique aspect: its avant-garde nature, which is hard to come by in Ozaukee County, DeStefanis said. Peep Show II runs through May 2. The next exhibit, the Cedarburg High School Student Show, will be on display May 9 through June 7. Aside from the sales and gallery aspects of the Arts Mill, it also provides oppor- tunities for community members to practice yoga, learn figure drawing and explore other varieties of art differing throughout the year. Classes and camps for children are available. Learn more about ways to get involved at www.thearts mill.org. Works of art created, exhibited and sold Emerging artists find a venue at NSAA Arts Mill
