A4 A4 4 O-Town Scene April 3, 2014 Artist of the Month: Richard Kathman From the Roxbury Arts Group: Richard Kathmann focuses on the concept of place and his works draw inspiration from forests, fields and landscapes surrounding his home and studio is East Meredith. The exhibit 'His Trees' features works in several media, including monoprint, lithograph, charcoal, oil on paper, oil on canvas, oil on linen, as well as oil in plywood relief. In conjunction with Kathmann's exhibit, the Rox- bury Arts Group will be offering two complimentary programs. The first will be a Drop In Art Class with Richard Kathamnn on Saturday, April 19, which will focus on painting Catskill vistas. The Drop In Art Class series is designed for anyone who is inter- ested in trying out a new artistic medium, subject, or would like to have the opportunity to work with Kathmann, a skilled landscape painter. The 'His Trees' exhibit closes on Saturday, April 26, with a panel discussion beginning at 1 p.m. in the Walt Meade Gallery. Led by Kathmann, the discus- sion will focus on a outdoor painting project with Hudson River Valley artist Bruce Bundock. Any land- scape painter is invited to join the conversation, and the public is also invited to attend and participate in the discussion. Richard Kathmann works plein air in the Catskill forests, on the Atlantic shore in Massachusetts and Maine, and in New Mexico. His landscape drawings and paintings have been exhibited at The Hyde Col- lection (Glens Falls) and at The Albany Institute of History and Art. In June 2012, Kathmann took part in the renowned painting marathon, "Arbor Vitae," at Old Westbury Garden, presented by the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture. Kathmann trained at the University of Chicago, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Pratt Institute. Kathmann lives in his saphouse studio on a former dairy farm in East Meredith.
