Greer experienced the healing power of truly "clean" living after being diagnosed with a non- cancerous tumor several years ago. Her doctors advised highly invasive surgeries; instead, she chose to detox her body and her home envi- ronment. Within a year, the tumor had disap- peared, and Greer switched from being Presi- dent of The Learning Annex to being a wellness consultant and motivational speaker. Here, she shares proven tips for safely clean- ing your house…this spring and all year long. Channel Granny's Goodness When Greer needs to sanitize her home, she reaches for ingredients her grandmother relied on. She fills one spray bottle (metal, not plastic) with three percent hydrogen peroxide (undiluted) and another with undiluted white vinegar, alternates squirts from each bottle, and then wipes it all down with hot water. "Tests show that using the two mists in se- quence eliminates almost all Salmonella, E. coli and Shigella organisms on surfaces like cutting boards and kitchen counters," explains Greer. "The system also beats commercial cleaners and even chlorine bleach in destroying bacteria." Forget Fragrance Ever wonder why your eyes itch and your head aches when you walk through a hard goods or grocery store? "Many people have an allergic reaction to the synthetic fragrances contained in everything from laundry detergent and scented tissue to kitty litter and garbage bags," says Greer. "Even products whose labels say 'fragrance free' or 'natural fragrance' likely contain scents made in a lab, not in nature." Greer's suggestions? Avoid anything that lists the word "fra- grance" on its label, including cleaning products, scented candles and potpourri.
