TRUST US Stu you'll want to know about HEAR SOULIVE The launch of a live-music venue is always cause for celebration, but when the new spot arrives with a gaggle of big bookings (The Roots & Elvis Costello, Jane's Addiction, Spoon) and a reputation for greatness in its New York home, we get extra tingly. Brooklyn Bowl's Las Vegas era begins, appropriately, with a funk-jazz trio so tied to the spot, its shows there go by the special tag Bowlive. Bonus: The Meters' George Porter Jr., Lettuce's Nigel Hall and the Shady Horns are all scheduled to join in on the fun. March 8 & 9, 9 p.m., $10-$20. BLACKALICIOUS West Coast indie/ backpacker hip-hop is enjoying a nostalgia moment, so it's fi tting that this acclaimed NorCal duo is representing. Get there early for two of local hip-hop's best, Rhyme N Rhythm and Ekoh. March 9, 8 p.m., $17-$20, Backstage Bar & Billiards. CHEER NASCAR WEEKEND Practice, Strato- sphere Pole Day qualifying, the Boyd Gaming 300, the Kobalt 400—it's like Electric Daisy Carnival for stock car fans, minus the glow sticks and tiaras. Start your engines and head for the Speedway. March 6-9, times & prices vary, Las Vegas Motor Speedway. CANELO ALVAREZ VS. ALFREDO ANGULO Don't let Alva- rez's one loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. fool you. The guy's legit, and he'll be taking on an opponent who has little to no respect for him. The two have a combined 48 knockouts, so expect fi reworks. March 8, 3 p.m., $25- $600, MGM Grand. PAC12 MEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT ESPN "brack- etologist" Joe Lunardi has seven Pac-12 teams—the most from any conference—in his NCAA tourney fi eld. See them jostle for position, and watch No. 3 Arizona try to lock down a top seed, over four days of action. March 12-15, times & prices vary, MGM Grand Garden Arena. EAT RESTAURANT WEEK More than 100 restaurants all over the Valley will offer discounted menus, with proceeds going to Three Square. The options are endless, so take advantage by try- ing something new: maybe Honey Salt's Backyard Favorite Burger, dim sum at Hakkasan or Rx Boiler Room's crispy fried game hen? March 7-14, helpoutdineoutlv.org. HELLO, NUMAN Catching up with synth- pop pioneer Gary Numan You've opened some Nine Inch Nails shows recently. What was that like? I'm just a big fan, a huge admirer of what Trent [Reznor] does. He's been extremely kind to me—he's said some lovely things, he's done a cover version of one of our songs ["Metal"], he's got me involved in Nine Inch Nails things on a number of occasions, which is a very good connection for me to have. You're working on your irst ilm score (From Inside). What's been the biggest di erence doing that sort of writing? When you write a song on your own, you decide if it's ready or good enough or how you want it to be. With ilm music, you're expected to create a certain atmosphere or vibe that's been hard-set, and you're writing it for somebody else. That's a very unusual thing for me. I follow you on Twitter, and I always enjoy reading your feed, because it's so funny and personal. I do a few things once in a while about my dog. And my wife just comes out with the most ridiculous comments. They make me laugh so much, I just tweet them straight away. Other times, it's just information, to let people know what's going on. It's a mixture, just trying to let your personality come across without boring people. I don't think you should be telling people what you had for breakfast. –Annie Zaleski For more of our interview with Numan, visit lasvegasweekly.com. GARY NUMAN with Big Black Delta, Roman Remains. March 7, 9 p.m., $29-$33. Hard Rock Live, 7337625. MARCH 612, 2014 LASVEGASWEEKLY.COM 43 BROOKLYN BOWL BY L.E.
