RED BLUFF 2011 13 Victorian Charm A classic Victorian home converted into an exhibition of antique wares from Tehama County’s past, the Kelly Griggs House Museum is open to the public The museum includes memorabilia, antiques and artwork. The collection show- cases many styles of artifacts depicting several different cultures, including pioneer artifacts and Chinese and Native American items. Vintage clothing and classic furniture complete the muse- um. The Kelly Griggs House Museum Association has worked to restore the historic building after it was closed for safety issues. The historic Red Bluff Victorian on Washington Street was built around 1889 using construction practices common for the day. River rock was laid up with a sand mortar joint and then topped with dried brick cap. That foundation was found to be crumbling in 2006. Renovation required bring- ing the structure up to fire, earthquake, electrical and access standards; all down- spouts needed to be drained away from the building; build- ing gutters repaired or replaced; windows upgraded to dual or triple glazing. A cli- mate-controlled HVAC system and fire and security systems were installed. A fire-rated wall between the museum and living quarters was built. Board members continual- ly raise money to get the house in order and construc- tion is happening in phases. The museum, at 311 Washington St., can be visit- ed every Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. each Daily News file photo Red Bluff is known for its Victorian homes built between 1860 and the early 1900s.
