So, when Jessica Madani decided to open up her own hair salon in 2010, she knew exactly where to look for a space. The owner of The Hair Remedy, a haircare and skincare salon located on Highway 9 in Ben Lomond, Madani, 25, doesn't have to travel far whenever she needs advice. Her father Masood can be found right across the highway, running Masood's Liquor and Deli for the past 24 years, while her older brother Aaron is currently taking over the ownership and operations of 9 Burger in Boulder Creek from his father. (Both Masood's Liquor and Deli and 9 Burger were Readers Choice Awards vote-getters in their respective categories.) Occupying a charming 850-square-foot space with four stations and one esthetician room,The Hair Remedy offers all hair- and skincare services with the exception of nails, which Madani plans to incorporate next year. Trained at Vidal Sassoon in Santa Monica and San Francisco, Madani has never worked for another salon. She said she was determined to open her own place after completing her training. "I've always had a thing for hair, Madani said. "I've " lived in the San Lorenzo Valley all my life, and there aren't many hair salons up here — it's mostly barbershops. I wanted to offer a place with all the services, so people don't have to drive into Santa Cruz all the time. " As for her young business being named "Best Hair Salon, Madani cred" ited a loyal and growing customer base for the honor. "The Hair Remedy is modern but comfortable and super-clean, " said Madani, who has two employees. "Everyone's always saying that it's the cleanest salon they've ever been in. "We really try to keep our customers happy. My father has always had a great client base at his place and he has taught me to make sure the customer is happy.
