Helping visitors reach their peak By Julie Zeeb If you're looking to host visitors or maybe you just want to know what is in your own backyard then look no further than the Tehama Country Visitor Center, 250 Antelope Blvd. The facility is owned and operated by the non-profit North Valley Services. "The Visitor Center is an enterprise of North Valley Services (NVS) to provide vocational opportunities for people with disabilities as well as to offer a valuable service to the community," NVS CEO Lynn DeFreece said. North Valley Services is dedicated to promoting opportunities for persons of disabilities in an environment of their choosing. In this case, staff is given experience in working with the public, Center Manager Linda Bullock said. "First and foremost we are a program for vocational training for North Valley Services," Bullock said. "We're also here to promote the area and to help visi- tors with what they need from directions to the next place to stop for gas. Our objective is to promote Tehama County and Red Bluff. To send them to the downtown and give them options for places to visit, eat and motels to stay in." A picture of Mt. Lassen behind the desk as well as the webcam of Lassen is one of the things visitors seem drawn to, Bullock said. For Jessica, one of the employees, the display on the Sacred Stones is her favorite and also the one visitors ask her about most often. "We worked our way here," Jessica said. "It took a while, but it was so worth it." Jessica is one of about 20 staff who rotate shifts with about three working per shift at two shifts a day, Bullock said.
