Land and Sea THE AUSTRALIAN STARS OF HUMAN NATURE TAKE US ON A TOUR OF THEIR FAVORITE VEGAS SPOTS FOR SURF 'N' TURF. BY MITCHELL WILBURN T he pop superstars of Human Nature hail from the land Down Under, a country famous for its great beef and world-class seafood. So for Andrew Tierney, Mike Tierney, Toby Allen, and Phil Burton—stars of Venetian's hit Smokey Robinson– produced Motown tribute show—it's simply their nature to seek out the popular American specialty known as surf 'n' turf. Each member of the Australian quartet reveals his favorite place to go in Vegas when he gets a craving for this unbeatable pairing. Toby Allen Phil Burton Star Choice: Craftsteak With more than 200 varieties of whiskey and scotch, plus a staggering selection of steakhouse favorites, Craftsteak, at MGM Grand, impresses the group's bass singer. "It's one place that I completely love," says Toby, who enjoys the clubby atmosphere and highly recommends the Black Angus surf 'n' turf (A-5 Wagyu is also available on the chef's beef tasting menu). He heads to James Beard Award– winning Tom Colicchio's steak restaurant on his rare nights out, when he's not home with his new twins. MGM Grand, 702-891-7318; mgmgrand.com Star Choice: RM Seafood With undoubtedly the most surffocused menu of the four (its Surf and Surf entrée boasts three jumbo shrimp and half a poached lobster on a bed of truffled mushroom risotto), RM Seafood is also noted for its surf 'n' turf, a favorite of Phil's. "It reminds me of home," says the high baritone. "Rick Moonen is the best." Feast on the plate's shelled half lobster with clarified butter and petite filet mignon in red wine jus, then head upstairs to Moonen's new steampunk-themed gastropub, Rx Boiler Room. He particularly loves the bestknown item in its famous aging program: the bone-in six-month dry-aged riserva rib eye. "I had it with their lobster salad on the side," says Andrew, a high baritone. "The end result is something really special, sensational. Plus, the wine list is amazing." Palazzo, 701-789-4141; carnevino.com Star Choice: SushiSamba When he hungers for a land-andsea combo, Andrew's younger brother Mike heads for this Brazilian/Japanese fusion destination. "It's got a cool vibe," says the former boy soprano. Mike's favorites include the churrasco meat plate and the spiny lobster robata skewer. "My wife took me there for my first Father's Day with my little girl. She actually tried a bit when she was less than a year old!"
