Page 3 April 2023 The Nina Mason Pulliam Environ- mental Journalism Award was created through a grant by the Pulliam Trust to the Hoosier State Press Association Foundation to recognize Indiana journalists for outstanding reporting on environmen- tal issues. The award was part of HSPA's annual contest for the first time in 2018. A recipient for 2022 work will be honored in the fall along with other HSPA contest entries. Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust $1,000 Environmental Journalism Award Hoosier State Press Association Foundation William Carroll named executive editor of Paxton Media Central Indiana News Group Katie Clontz Connersville News Examiner The News Examiner, The (New Castle) Courier-Times and The Shelbyville News are pleased to welcome Group Publisher Kelly Miller, who took leadership of the three publications March 27. Miller oversees eight Paxton Media Group newspapers including those in Conners- ville, New Castle, Shelbyville, Marion, Huntington, Peru, Wabash and Frankfort. Local residents might remember Miller as she served as the News Examiner's publisher from 2008-2011 and as The Courier-Times' pub- lisher from 2011-2014. "I am happy to be back in these communities and I know we can provide a strong product, print and digital, for years to come," Miller said. "I hope to get to know these communities again and provide quality, hyper-local content that readers can not get anywhere else. I strive to keep the circulation strong and the business solid." Originally from Lansing, Michigan, Miller is now based in Marion, Indiana. She started her career with Paxton in 1996 after attending college at Western Michigan University. At the time, she sold advertising in St. Staff reports Chronicle-Tribune (Marion) Paxton Media Group's Central Indiana Newspaper Group Publisher Kelly Miller announced that she has named current Wabash Plain Dealer editor William Carroll as executive editor of the group. In his new role, Carroll will oversee news operations at the Marion Chronicle-Tribune, Peru Tribune, Frankfort Times, Huntington Herald-Press and Wabash Plain Dealer. Carroll will be replacing Executive Editor Jared Keever, who stepped down to pursue an opportunity with his family's business. Miller had this to say of Carroll's promotion, "We are so grateful to have someone of William's caliber fill the executive editor position. I know he will make all the newspapers in our group stronger. William's focus on local content will make our products, digital and print, more valuable to the communities we serve." Carroll has over a decade of experience working primarily as an editor for community newspapers throughout the U.S. Before taking over as the editor of the Plain Dealer, Carroll was the editor of the Republican Journal in Belfast, Maine and has also worked as an editor in Paxton Media Group newspapers welcome publisher Kelly Miller See Miller, page 6 Miller See Carroll, page 6 Carroll
