Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust $1,000 Environmental Journalism Award Hoosier State Press Association Foundation Staff reports Wabash Plain Dealer Prior to the start of 2023, veteran journalist William Carroll was named as the new editor of the Wabash Plain Dealer. Carroll has over a decade of experience working primarily as an editor for newspapers throughout the U.S. Most recently, Carroll was the editor of the Republican Journal in Belfast, Maine and has also worked as an editor in Mississippi and Kentucky as well as serving as publisher for a small group of newspapers in Oklahoma. Carroll, a Mississippi native, is no stranger to Indiana, having earned a J.D. degree from Valparai- so University School of Law in northwest Indiana in 2001. Prior to becoming a journalist, Carroll was a practicing attorney in Arizona for 10 years. "I came back to Indiana because I had fond memories of the state during my time in law school," he said. "I also still have a number of friends living in the northern part of the state." Carroll said he is looking forward to living and working in Wabash. "Most of my career has been spent in communities just like Wabash," Carroll said. "I really enjoy the feel of smaller communi- ties that truly represent what our country is all about." In his first two weeks on the job, Carroll said he sees a lot of potential in the community. "Wabash has a lot of great stories that definitely need to be told," he said. "I am excited about the opportunity to do a deep dive into the community and discover everything it has to offer." Central Indiana Newspaper Group Executive Editor Jared Keever said he is excited to have Carroll on board at the Plain Dealer. "William is bringing us a lot of experience in working for and managing papers similar to the Plain Dealer," Keever said. "I was excited when we were able to extend a job offer and that excitement has only grown after working with him these last couple of weeks. I can't wait to see what he can do in Wabash." CING Publisher Kelly Miller also had several positive comments about Carroll's arrival "We are so fortunate to have found an editor of Will Carroll's caliber," Miller said. "I am looking forward to all the great things to come for the Plain Dealer. Our entire team here at Central Indiana News Group is excited to see where Mr. Carroll is going to take our local news. Be on the look-out for things to change." Carroll said he welcomes the public to stop by the Plain Dealer's offices at 99 West Canal St. in downtown Wabash. "I have always had a pretty open-door policy when it comes to speaking with the public," Carroll said. "Because I plan to be out and about in the community, I may not always be sitting in my office, but when I am there I want to hear from members of the community. This is a community newspaper and that input is vital to providing our readers what is most important to them." William Carroll named editor of Plain Dealer Carroll "I really enjoy the feel of smaller communities that truly represent what our country is all about." — William Carroll, editor, Wabash Plain Dealer
