The tank hit a mine, exploded and permanently blinded Williams. But that didn't stop Williams from pursuing his goal of becoming a minister and counselor. He went on to graduate from college with honors. He said he thought his blindness was actually an asset in his career. "I can never judge by appearances," he said. "I can always give a person a second chance. My blindness keeps me from cutting myself off from a person because of the way he looks." Williams went on to say, "I want to be the kind of person to whom anyone can come and feel secure, to express them- selves." You've got to love Williams' positive attitude! Blinded, by no fault of his own, and he turns a potential weakness into a powerful strength. What potential weakness do you face right now? I wonder what Williams would say about your weakness if it was his? Live Positive like Williams and transform your weakness into a strength. What's your strength? By Loretta Cozart Join Kings Mountain Family YMCA for the 22nd Annual Jingle Bell Rockin' Run 5k Walk/Run on Saturday December 3 at 9 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Kings Moun- tain. This year, they will offer a virtual option for those who prefer to social distance. Be sure to reg- ister early, as registration fees increase after No- vember 24. In addition to the 5K race, they will also have the 1/2-mile Kids Fun Run at 9:45 a.m., with custom- ized Jingle Bell hoodies for participants, photo ops with Santa, Mrs. Clause & Dasher, and other activi- ties. The Phantom Dasher is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Awards will be 1st-3rd place overall male/female, 1st-3rd place masters - male/female, and 1st-3rd place male/female for the following age groups: 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35- 39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70+. The benefit of running the Jingle Bell Rockin' Run is that participants get to run a race that makes a difference this holiday sea- son. The proceeds from the race will go directly to those in need of financial assistance to have access to YMCA programs! You can register by going to RunSignUP.com/ Jingle Bell Rockin' Run, Kings Mtn NC. Runners, walkers, children, and pets are welcome. For more information on the Jingle Bell Rockin' Run or other YMCA pro- grams, you can visit clev- ecoymca.org On September 22, Kings Mountain Family YMCA announced their 5K race is now certified by US Track & Field. A USATF-certified course is a road race course whose distance has been certi- fied for accuracy. Courses must be cer- tified for any road running performance to be ac- cepted as a record or to be nationally ranked. Running a race on a certified course allows you to accurately compare your time to per- formances run on other certified courses because you can be sure the dis- tances were the same. Annual Jingle Bell Rockin' Run 5k to be held Dec. 3 Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. James 1:19 (NLT)
