I was tired beyond what a good night's sleep can recover. So I decided it was time to invite "little Joey," my inner child, out to play to keep me from becoming a dull boy. Now "little Joey" is always ready to come out to play. This particular day I decided to make a list of fun things I did when I was a kid and do some of them. So I wrote my list and it went something like this: 1. Go fi shing. 2. Walk a dog. 3. Hang on monkey bars. 4. Skip rocks across a pond. 5. Kick a can. 6. Catch a frog. That day, I decided to walk our yellow Lab, Jake, and not only did we walk, but we wrestled around in the backyard and threw the ball and played with the water hose. It was great! So how often does your inner child get to come out and play? You were created to do something besides work all the time; to play and enjoy the world around you, too. So invite your little kid to come out and play as you listen to life and Work Positive today! ListentoLife.org LISTEN TO LIFE by Dr. Joey Faucette Can your little kid come out to play? Neal Payne, Associate Minister for Student Ministries, Begins New Role on Aug. 1 G a r d n e r - W e b b University President William Downs has ap- pointed Neal Payne as interim vice president for Christian Life and Ser- vice, effective Aug. 1. Payne presently serves as associate minister for Student Ministries. He succeeds Tracy Jessup, who will retire at the end of July, after 30 years of service to the University. "I have a tremendous amount of confidence in Neal," praised Downs. "He is a proud GWU alumnus, he has au- thentic concern for the spiritual welfare of our students, and he has a proven 16-year record of empowering Gardner- Webb students in their worship and in their in- dividual faith journeys. Neal Payne will be a wonderful addition to the University's leadership team, and he will most certainly be a faithful steward of our Christian mission and identity." Payne joined the Gardner-Webb staff in 2006 and holds a Bach- elor of Arts degree in religious studies and a Master of Divinity in re- ligious education from GWU. Previously, he was the youth minister at Boiling Springs Bap- tist Church. "I am grateful for the leadership and friend- ship I received from Tracy over these many years of serving our Lord together, and am truly humbled by the opportunity to serve in this interim role," Payne shared. "My prayer is that we will glorify Christ in all we do here at Gardner-Webb as we serve these students He has entrusted to us." Downs affirmed that a search for the next leader of the Office of Christian Life and Ser- vice will begin soon, and the University is plan- ning to host a reception in July to honor Jessup. "Please join me in thanking and celebrat- ing Dr. Tracy Jessup for his exceptional service and leadership," Downs added. " We are all in- deed grateful for ev- erything that Tracy has done to advance our institutional mission as Vice President for Chris- tian Life and Service/ Senior Minister to the University. The legacy will be profound and en- during." GWU President Names Interim VP for Christian Life and Service NEAL PAYNE TRACY JESSUP A nutritious, well-balanced diet is a vital component of a healthy life- style. Many foods provide a host of vita- mins and nutri- ents, and that includes some that aren't atradition- ally associated with eating right. That includes peanut butter, an item many people have in their pantries but few might characterize as "healthy." Though peanut butter may pack a more nutritional punch than people re- alize, it's important that shoppers check labels when choosing a jar to take home from the grocery store. Added sugars, vegetable oil and trans fats can reduce the nutritional value of peanut butter. Shoppers who want to eat more pea- nut butter for its nutritional value should look for products that do not contain any additives or trans fats. An analysis of various peanut butter brands conduct- ed by the United States Department of Agriculture found that the amounts of partially hydrogenated oils in 13 brands was so small that levels of trans fats were undetectable. So consumers should be able to fi nd healthy peanut butter at their local grocery stores. So what's so healthy about peanut but- ter? According to WebMD, peanut but- ter is a good source of: • Vitamin E • Niacin (B3) • Manganese • Vitamin B6 • Magnesium The fats in peanut butter also may promote a healthy body. Oleic acid is one such fat and it has been linked to a host of cardiovascular benefi ts. When substituted for other fats, oleic acid has been shown to help people maintain a healthy cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Maintaining healthy cholesterol and blood sugar levels and a healthy blood pressure are some ways for individuals to reduce their risk for heart disease. Peanut butter may not be the fi rst food people associate with a healthy diet. But the right peanut butter can pack quite a nutritional punch, which supports the notion that a healthy diet need not lack fl avor. Peanut butter can pack a nutritional punch
