I am confident our papers have the ability to report on what matters, but that's what you are tasked with—reporting the news. It's up to those who support you to shepherd the profession into the future. That's why I'm here. I'm eager to get to know all of our papers and work together to improve the state of journal- ism in Indiana. This summer I will be embarking on a statewide tour of newsrooms, until then please do not hesitate to reach out to me with your thoughts. The work begins today. Managing Editor If you like working in a fast- paced environment with other like- minded people, this is the job for you. We are looking for someone who loves serving the community with high integrity and sharp jour- nalism skills. The Chronicle-Tribune is seek- ing a managing editor who is passionate about local journalism and able to manage news opera- tions at a paper that publishes five days a week with a small team of reporters, freelancers and interns. We need someone with strong organizaitonal, writing and report- ing skills. The right candidate will have the ability to produce hard news stories and features with a knack for getting to the heart of an issue while helping others do the same. As the face of the editorial side of the Chronicle-Tribune the manag- ing editor will need to forge strong working relationships with top offi- cials and community leaders while managing our production and com- munication strategies at the paper. The managing editor is responsible for ensuring each paper meets daily newspaper and special publication deadlines. This role works closely with the executive editor to create and execute readership strategies, playing a main role in story gather- ing and agenda setting. Qualifications • Work experience: prior news- writing experience, editorial experi- ence, editing experience. • Education: college degree in journalism, communications, English or related field preferred • Job-related requirements: ability to manage writers and jug- gle multiple projects at one time. • Photography skills are pre- ferred but not required. Community Editor Kankakee Valley Publishing is seeking a hands-on community editor to take the reins of a weekly community newspaper in west- central Indiana. We believe strong community newspapers lead the way and our news content backs up our pas- sion for local news. We are fierce- ly independent and our content platform is nearly all local news with every issue. The ideal candi- date has the ability to focus on all aspects of community journalism, including taking photographs and shooting video, writing news and sports stories, and possesses an instinctual knack for daily digital journalism. We're a weekly in print, but a 24/7 daily in digital. This full-time position is based in Monticello, Ind., working for a combined newsroom of multiple weekly titles in east-central Illinois/ west-central Indiana with an annu- al 5.2 million online page views. Expectations are: • Ability to multitask in a dead- line-driven environment • Strong editing, writing, designing and pagination skills • Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop and TCMS BLOX pagination.
