Army E4 Steve Hess, of Alkol, served in Vietnam from 1964 to 1967. Army MSgt. Jackie Collins, of Morrisvale, served from 1968 to 1971, including service in Vietnam in 1969 and 1970. Joy Ayers submitted several photos to honor military men in her family, including Alvie "Pete" Thomas, who served in the Army from 1969 to 1971. Charley Ayers Sr. was honorably discharged from the Army in 1976. Charley Ayers Sr. served in the Army from 1970 to 1976. Jonny M. Ayers served in the Army and was killed in Vietnam. Robert C. Thomas served in the Army National Guard. Elvin W. Davis, of South Charleston, was in the Army during World War II, serving with the 327th Engineers. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Robert DeHart Sr. served in the Navy. Ira V. Ayers served in the Army at Pearl Harbor. Pfc. Bobby Clay, of Madison, served in Germany with the Army from 1949 to 1952. Adam Runyon, of South Charleston, served in Iraq as a member of the U.S. Air Force. Charlie Ayers Jr. served in the Marines and Army National Guard. Navy Seabee Joseph Linville, of Alkol, served in Afghanistan and is currently active in the National Guard. Marine Lance Cpl. Edward Pridemore, of Alkol, served in the Beirut, Lebanon Crisis from 1958 to 1961. Ursula Brown, Navy (Ret.), was awarded three Gold Stars and a Congressional Medal, having served in the Persian Gulf, Operation Desert Storm, Japan, Guam and Hawaii. Her grandfather is Sgt. Green W. Smith of Dunbar. John Justice served in the Navy. Troy Justice served in the Army. Charley Ayers Jr. Tom Justice, Air Force. Tom Justice served in the Air Force.
