This photo was taken during a walking patrol in Kandahar City, Kandahar, Afghanistan, in the summer of 2011. Air Force James Lewis Meadows of Madison Leo Stricker II, of Charleston, served in Vietnam with the Army. He is pictured with his father, Leo Stricker; his mother, Phyllis Spence; and his sister, Linda Jacobs. Roscoe Mullins served in the Marines from Jan. 21, 1942 to Jan. 22, 1946. Pfc. Mullins served at Tarawa, Gilbert Islands; Saipan, Tinian, Marianas Islands; and Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands. Army Cpl. Harold Ray Meadows of Madison. Timothy F. White, formerly of Mammoth, served in the Army from 1968 to 1970. This photo was taken in Vietnam in 1969, when White was 21. Gunnery Sgt. E7 James E. McCoy Jr., enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1948 and served with Bat. 7th. He transferred to Fleet Marine Corps and Reserves in 1969. He received a Navy Occupation Medal, three Expert Medal M-1, .45 Pistol Marksman, and several others. Bill (Little Mac) McClanahan, of Sissonville, served in the 4th Infantry Divisions, Bravo Company, 1st 22nd as an E5 Sergeant. Cavender with the West Virginia Air National Guard was an Air Force pilot in Europe during World War II. Dave Richards, of East Bank (formerly Ohley), served from 1967 to 1971 in the Air Force. He served at Whiteman Air Force Base on the Minute Man Missile Project in Knob Noster, Mo. Norvelle E. "Minks" Thompson, of Ronda, served in the Navy Seabees from 1956 to 1976. He was wounded in the Battle of Normandy. Navy Seaman Apprentice Patrick Crouse, of Buffalo, is stationed on the USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN71 in Newport News, Va. This picture was taken in Buffalo when he was home for Christmas in 2012. His brother graduated from Navy Boot Camp on June 14, 2013. SP/5 Terry Burhans, of Charleston, served with Army A Battery, 1st Target Acquisition Battery, 26th Field Artillery, attached to Vee Corp. His military training was 93F20 Ballistic Meteorologist. He was stationed in Giessen, Germany, from May 1971 to October 1972. This photo was taken in the barracks on the campus depot in Giessen.
