D-2 Wednesday, September 15, 2021 The Press-Dispatch Baptist Christian Church of Christ Catholic Independent Independent Church of God Lutheran Methodist BRENTON CHAPEL CHURCH OF CHRIST 1194 E. CR 400 N. Prides Creek Road Petersburg Sunday morning Bible classes 10 a.m.; morning worship 10:30 a.m. and evening worship at 6 p.m. Tony Sims, Elder Ross Williams, Elder GLEZEN G.B. CHURCH Corner of Center and Sycamore Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship 10 :30 a.m.; Wednesday Bible study at 6:30 p.m., continuing studying in Daniel 11. Remember those on our prayer list, the shut-ins and our lost loved ones. Be an Exhorter When it comes to being an exhorter, observe two things: (1) Exhortation is a neglected gift. No ministry is more need- ed in the church today as that of encouragement. It's so easy to find discouragement. Even in the church. Some church- es have what's called a "cold water committee." They're always ready to tell you why something won't work and point out how some program went wrong. They seem to talk louder and longer than the en- couragers, which leads to the next point. (2) Exhortation is a needed gift. No matter how well things may be going, or how well someone looks on the outside, every one of us can use some encouragement. In fact, encouragement is so im- portant that the whole church is to be involved in it. "Let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but ex- horting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching" (Hebrews 10 :24-25, NK JV ). Church is a place where people should be picked up, not knocked down. We need to encourage people when they don't need it, instead of wait- ing until they do. If you wait too long, your encouragement may be too late. Don't wait un- til something good happens to speak an encouraging word; make it a regular practice. "But I don't know what to say," you protest. Ask God for wis- dom and you will get it. "The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary" (Isaiah 50 :4). Tak- en from The Word for You To- day. God almighty has given me not only a premonition, but al- so a prophecy. Thus saith the Lord, the way they are trying to make it mandatory for ev- eryone to take a shot, if we want to continue our way of living, to travel, go out to eat, movies, even go to grocery store, most important to gath- er at our church. But God has made me aware of what His plan for this virus is. "Just be still and know that He is God" (Psalms 46:10). The cases of COVID are rapidly on the rise all around us. Humility and Holiness "The great test of wheth- er the holiness we profess to seek or to attain, is truth and life, will be whether it be man- ifest in the increasing humili- ty it produces. In the creature, humility is the one thing need- ed to allow God's holiness to dwell in him and shine through him. In Jesus, the Holy One of God who makes us holy, a di- vine humility was the secret of His life and His death and His exaltation; the one infalli- ble test of our holiness will be the humility before God and men which marks us. Jesus revealed a better way. He brought salvation for all people, including Samaritans. So He ventured into the hearts of Samaria to bring living wa- ter to a sinful woman and her town (v. 4-42). His last words to His disciples were to follow His example. They must share His good news with everyone, be- ginning in Jerusalem and dis- persing through Samaria until they reached "the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8). Samaria was more than the next geograph- ical sequence. It was the most painful part of the mission. The disciples had to overcome life- times of prejudice to love peo- ple they didn't like. Does Jesus matter more to us than our grievances? There's only one way to be sure, Love your "Samaritan"—by Mike Wittmer. Josh Sanders, Pastor Sherry Julian, Reporter
