Titans closer to home at Southridge By Andy Heuring Star-Times Sports sports@sgstartimes.com A fter playing teams all over Indiana and Kentucky, the Titan football team heads into the heart of their conference schedule. Over the next three weeks, their games will likely decide the Pocket Athletic Conference outcome. The Titans will play Southridge this Friday and then Heritage Hills, be- fore traveling to so far unde- feated Mt. Vernon on Oct. 1. Southridge is coming off a tremendous season last year that saw them go 13-1. Their only loss was in the semi-state to the eventual state runner-up Danville. It also included two wins over Gibson Southern, a 48 -28 contest in Sept. and then a 30 -27 win in the sec- ond round of the sectional. Southridge is 2-2 this year. They opened with a 27-13 loss to Linton-Stock- ton, who so far is 4-0 this year. The next week they beat Boonville 30 -15 and then lost to North Posey, who is also 4-0. On Friday, they beat Pike Central 58 -0. The Raiders are mostly a running team. In their win over Boonville, they had three ball carriers run for 81 or more yards. They were led by tailback Aidan Jochem, who had 140 yards in 23 carries. Quar- terback Levi Neukam ran for 98 yards in 19 carries and Kaden Neukam had 81 yards on just five carries. Neukam only threw four passes. He completed one for five yards and had one interception. It was a similar stat line against North Posey. Jochem had 207 yards in 23 carries and two touch- downs. Kaden Neukam had 66 yards in 8 carries and Levi had 47 yards in 11 runs. Both Neukams had a touch- down. Levi Neukman complet- ed three of seven passes for 17 yards. In their 58 -0 blowout of Pike Central, Levi Neuk- man completed two of three passes for 73 yards and one interception. They had eight guys run for 22 or more yards. "They have a great pro- gram. It is always going to be a tough game when you play Southridge," said Titan Coach Nick Hart. Southridge lost a lot of players to graduation. "They have a lot of new guys playing in new po- sitions, but they are con- tinuing to get better every game. They will be a tough opponent and by tourna- ment time, they will be a tough team to get past," said Hart. Gibson Southern will play Friday night after their first loss of the year. The Titans started the year off with big wins over big schools, beating Columbus North 43-20 and New Alba- ny 63-24. They also had a blowout against an over- matched Washington 68 -6, before running into South Warren, where they lost 42-7. Until the South Warren game, Gibson Southern was averaging 58 points. That average is now 45 points a game. Purdue recruit quarter- back Brady Allen has com- pleted 68 of 96 passes for 976 yards and 14 touch- downs, without an inter- ception. His top target, Rory Helt- sley, has caught 23 pass- es for 371 yards and sev- en touchdowns. Allen has completed passes to eight different receivers. Cole McKee has caught 19 pass- es for 200 yards and two touchdowns, Sean DeLong has caught seven passes for 141 yards and Kaden Hur- less has caught eight pass- es for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Sean DeLong is leading the Titan running game. He has 40 carries for 313 yards and five touchdowns. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Gibson Southern. Kaden Hurless pulls in a pass during the Titans' game against South Warren. Titan tailback Sean DeLong runs upfield. DeLong had five carries for 27 yards against South Warren. Logan Maurer (5) and Levi Dickerson (43) tackle South Warren quarterback Chad Veltkamp during the 42-7. Titans Zach Rose (58) and Ben Luttrell (7) tackle a South Warren ball carrier on Friday.
