Customize a salad by selecting from the large assortment of fresh, organic ingredients at the salad station.
($6) turned this into a full meal as fat-free as it was delicious.
For Mexican flavors, try the Tostada, a confetti of romaine,
chicory chop, toasted corn, black beans, cherry tomatoes, jicama, scallions, fresh herbs, pumpkin seeds, tortilla strips and
white cheddar sluiced with a chipotle-agave vinaigrette ($10.25).
Blue Barn offers several creative ways to enjoy a meal. Invent
a salad to your taste out of a list of more than 50 ingredients.
Start with a bowl of greens and choose up to six toppings and
your choice of dressing.
So popular is this idea, the restaurant's general manager
Brooke Gray told me 75 people's favorites are already on file.
You can call in and ask for your food to go; it will be ready
when you come in to pick it up.
That attention to detail is one of the
many reasons why Blue Barn, while a
place for a quick meal, is the antithesis of
fast food. You can have what you want,
however you want it. Substitutions, said
Gray, are welcome. If they can make it
for you, they will.
Anything on the menu can also be
packaged to go. Simply phone in your order, plan a picnic destination, and there's
your full picnic (beverages and all), ready
to go.
I'm impressed with Blue Barn. It's unlike anything else in the county, and it
brings a wonderful energy and roster of
foods to our dining options.
