two Local Labor Leaders talkin' Union May day in Albany Occupy Albany, in concert with allies from the Solidarity Committee and the Capital District Area Labor Federation, hosted a May Day event in Albany on Wednesday, May 1. The day's events included workshops, teach-ins and speakers on a variety of topics. A march and vigil for immigrants' rights kicked off the day, and University at Albany students participated in a walkout to support " Justice for Janitors." A march at the close of the event culminated at the SUNY Administration Building, with an after-party at Red Square. Associated Press Organizer Kaseem Moultrie of the Service Employees International Union Local 200 leads demonstrators during a Justice for Janitors May Day rally at the Alfred E. Smith State Office Building on Wednesday, May 1. Bill Simons Unions, Simons said, offer an antidote. "Unions are about solidarity. Anybody can sit in a corner and grouse. Someone might have told you, 'You can't fight city hall.' What they should have told you is, 'You can't fight city hall alone.' Not saying you will always win, but you will have a voice. If you're alone, it will be a lonely, shrill, dispiriting voice. If you're together, it's still a struggle, but it's also a joy."
